Day 1

14 March 2024
Temperature: 20° c

In first day of our tour, we safely reached Sringeri on 14-03-2024

at 6am in 20°c. Sringeri also called Sri Kshetra Shringeri is a hill town and
taluk headquarters located in Chikkamagaluru district in the Indian state of
Karnataka.
We visited The Sringeri Sharada Peetham, this includes two major
temples, one is Vidya Shankara temple, and another one is Sharada Amba
temple. As soon as we entered the temple, we first visited Sri Torana
Ganapathi Temple and then we visited Sri Vidya Shankara temple.
Especially this Vidya Shankara
temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva
and also this temple is a marvel of
ancient Indian astronomy and
architecture. There we
experienced and explored the
greatness of this temple
architecture. After that we visited
Sri Sharada Amba temple, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi,
this is an 8th century temple founded by Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
All these temples are in the bank of Thunga River, so we visited
that river. The river is on right of the temple is full of fish which are fed by
devotees and catching them is
strictly prohibited. The river can be
crossed by the hanging bridge.
On the way out of the
temple there is a bookstall which
has a wide variety of books related
to history and spiritual doctrines,
2
most of them all in Kannada language. While going out from the temple, I
and my friend asked a grand man about the history of this temple. He said,
According to the various ancient stories, one day while Adi Shankaracharya
was walking on the banks of the Tunga river, he saw a cobra protecting a
pregnant frog from the scorching sun rays by spreading its hood. The
incident left a deep impact on him because despite being the frog’s natural
enemy, cobra protected her. This made him believe that this place is truly
special and unique and hence decided to build the Sharada Peetham near
the banks of Tunga and established.

After coming out of the temple, we had tiffin near our bus and
then we left for Horanadu. We reached Horanadu village safely amidst
ghat section roads, Horanadu is 42.3 km from the Sringeri.
