Advanced Programme in

Strategy for Leaders

(Batch 09)

11 Months | Blended | ₹2,80,500 + GST

A Times Of India Group Initiative

Strategy and Leadership
The effectiveness of any organisation is directly dependent on the effectiveness of
its leaders. Strategic planning is vital in clarifying where the organisation is going
and how it is going to get there. A good plan states a goal, but a great plan also
includes action steps on how to reach that goal. Leaders make strategic plans for
the future and steer the organisation towards meeting future goals. Strategic
planning and leadership development combine to create the best possible path to
organisational success.

In a disruptive, hypercompetitive environment of transient advantage, the future

of strategic leadership and management theory and practice, envisages a
multi-theory, integrated approach that combines the visionary, transformational,
and transactional dimensions of leadership into a single practical framework.
Strategic leadership, supported by strong managerial leadership, enhances the
wealth and value creation process in an organisation.

Six Tasks for the Future of Strategic Leadership

Five Elements of Strategic Thinking

A Systems Perspective

Strategic thinkers need to have an end-to-end perspective of the value chain

of activities in the organisation. They have to see the interconnectedness and
interdependencies of the various components and functions in the
organisation.

Intent-focused

It is about being driven by goals with a constancy of purpose that provides the
long-term orientation that is anchored to the strategic vision of the
organisation.

Intelligent Opportunism

The constancy of purpose generated by strategic intent has to be balanced

with the flexibility to adapt to opportunities in the environment.

Thinking in Time

It is about being able to iteratively see the connectedness of the past, present,
and future. This understanding enables strategists to be mindful of what
needs to be done and what can be done.

Hypothesis-driven

A hypothesis-driven approach to thinking about strategy enables strategists

to test their assumptions and beliefs and adapt their plan as they receive cues
and feedback.
