SUMMARY AND OVERVIEW OF SUBJECT CONTENT:
 The present day skills expected from Managers, in addition to
Planning and organizing related skills, include PROJECT
MANAGEMENT SKILLS as well . Managers are expected to lead
and execute successfully several Management improvement
Projects in the organization, which forms the CORE STRATEGY of
the enterprise.

 Project Management is an ancient subject yet less widely


understood and mastered. Various studies show the financial
loss due to cost overruns and schedule overruns are immense.
The opportunity cost due to inadequate skills in project
execution is seldom determined. Historically various projects
have been carried out by all civilizations, whether they called it a
project or otherwise. By its very historical nature, each region
has developed its own approach to project execution. Pyramids
of Egypt, Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal at Agra stand testimony
to man’s ability in executing projects.
 In this context PROJECT MANAGEMENT has gained importance.
TODAY EVERY COMPANY NEEDS ESSENTIAL SKILLS ON PROJECT
MANAGEMENT WHICH INCLUDES ENTERPRISES, GOVERNMENT,
DEFENSE, AND CIVIL SOCIETY. There are global institutes which
are set up to impart knowledge and skills on Project
management such as PMI, IPMA, PRINCE 2
 Each Year PMI ( Project management Institute ) gathers from
ALL ITS MEMBERS their current profile , salary, growth, etc since
their certification and undertaking Project Management ROLE.
PMI has published a data that OVER 20 % MORE SALARY AND
GROWTH IS OBSERVED IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSION
AS COMPARED TO OTHERS.

COURSE CARRICULAM AIM :

1. The objective of this COURSE CARRICULAM is to introduce students to


fundamental concepts & essential SKILLS in Project Management.
2. The course will familiarize the students with various FUNCTIONS &
PROCESSES in Project Management as recommended by PMI / PMBOK -USA
as per PMBOK VERSION 5.
3. The course will assist in making students understand when and how various
project management processes are implemented taking examples form case
studies from leading Organizations.
4. Overall the foundation concepts help students to take up suitable PM
certification conducted by Professional certification institutions and also
take part Confidently in their Company’s Projects as required.

APPROACH TO LEARNING DURING COURSE :

 The program will commence with a clear understanding that each student
already has basic understanding of the subject. It is our collective
endeavor to bring all our understanding into a standard framework
mostly adhering to PMI Framework.

 Sessions will be highly interactive deriving CURRENT real life scenarios


from the students and mapping them to project management concepts
and processes.

 Case Studies will be discussed to transform theoretical knowledge into


conceptual understanding. CASE STUDY WILL BE CIRCULATED FOR DISCUSSION IN
CLASS / ON LINE OR E MAIL & WILL CARRY BONUS MARKS IN
ASSIGNMENTS/EXAMINATION.
 Each student is encouraged to make a presentation from their own work
area and a congenial debate is supported.

 Guidance is provided to students at each phase of their PROJECT WORK to


help them not just complete the project work but also understand the
concepts well.
 The overall aim of PROJECT WORK is to provide CONFIDENCE to both
students and their superiors in COMPANY on useful Management
Techniques learned by Student in course.
