ABOUT THE HISTORY OF SYMBOLS

The kangaroo and the ostrich emu were finally


recognised as an official symbol of Australia when it
was included on the nation's coat of arms in 1908.
They have appeared on currency and stamps and on
Royal Australian Air Force aircraft.
WHY IS THE KANGAROO AND THE OSTRUCH EMU
A SYMBOL OF AUSTRALIA?

Kangaroos have a peculiarity - they cannot walk


backwards. That is why Australia decided to
depict a kangaroo on its coat of arms,
demonstrating that the country is only moving
forward. Next to it is the emu bird, which also
does not go backwards.
FEATURES OF ANIMALS
Kangaroos:
- Kangaroos are marsupials, carrying their young in pouches.
- They hop using powerful hind legs, conserving energy.
- They live in social groups and exhibit interesting behaviors like boxing.

Emus:
- Emus are the largest birds in Australia.
- They have long necks, powerful legs, and brown plumage.
- Emus are adaptable and can survive in various environments.
- Males take care of the eggs and chicks, showing unique parental behavior.

In summary, both kangaroos and emus have special traits that make them iconic in
