India- Human Resources

C 1. Human beings can add value to natural resources and can cause economic development. Thus,
human beings are the most important resource on the earth.

2. According to the Census of India 2011, the death rate has gone down while the life Expectancy at
birth has increased. This is mainly due to better public health, prevention of Infectious diseases and
availability of modern medical techniques in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

D. 1. a. The people living in a country or region are called the human resources.

b. Human skills depend on these factors. (Any two of these.)

• The people must be literate. They should possess technical, vocational and professional skills

• The people should be provided with proper environment and machines to work effectively.

• The people must understand the dignity of labor and work hard to produce more.

• The people must get balanced, sufficient and nutritious food to maintain good health.

2. a. About half of the total population of our country lives in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, West
Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

b. Moderate rainfall and comparatively less fertile soils have adversely affected the density of
population in the moderately populated areas. The industrial development is the main pull factor for
areas where there is a moderate density of population.

3. a. Factors responsible for low and declining sex ratio in India. (Any two of these.)

More males are born than females in all societies due to biological reasons.

• Males get preferential treatment, while females are neglected. This results in higher female mortality

• Female infanticide is practiced.

• With small family norms, many young couples do not want a second child, if the first child is male

• Kerala has the highest sex ratio.

4. a. Health and education are two components that help in growth and development of human
resources

b. Education is a very important and essential component of human development. The capability of
human beings improves, when they are properly and suitably educated, the investment in educating the
people can make or convert them into rich human resources. The educated persons can suitably
contribute to the growth and development of family, society and country.

5. a. The central and the state governments have started to lay more emphasis on skill development of
the youths so as to help them secure a better livelihood.

b. The impacts of skilled human resources on socio-economic development in India. (Any three)

• They have the capability and capacity to use the natural resources in the best possible way.
• They can develop techniques for the sustainable use of various natural resources.

• The skilled people can establish industries, which not only helps in economic growth, but also create
employment opportunities for others.

• They can help the country to produce all those things within the country which India otherwise has to
import from other countries.

• They can increase the gross domestic product (GDP) which can further help in the development of
human resources.
