Lesson Plan: Self-Esteem

Activity: Self-Esteem
Grade(s):2-5

Learning Objective(s):
1.The student will learn the definition of self-esteem
2.The student will understand the relationship between acts of kindness and bullying.
Materials:
Paper
Pencils
Procedure: The counselor will go over self-esteem. The counselor will ask students for examples of acts of kindness and how acts of
kindness affect self-esteem.
The students will each write their favorite thing about themselves on a slip of paper. The counselor will collect each compliment and
read each one out loud individually. The students will raise their hand to guess who wrote each one.
The counselor will ask the students how giving themselves a compliment and receiving one felt. The counselor will make the
connection between self-esteem and acts of kindness.
The counselor and students will discuss the relationship between acts of kindness and bullying.

Process Data: The counselor will informally assess each student as they both give and receive compliments. The counselor will ask
students to rate by show of fingers (scale 1-5) how getting and giving compliments feels.
Follow Up: The counselor will continue to remind students to give out acts of kindness by promoting the character education
program of bucket filling.
