The pot full of wit

Akbar was once got angry with Birbal and removed him from his kingdom. Birbal
travelled to a faraway village and changed his name and started working as a
farmer. After a couple of weeks, Akbar started to miss Birbal and hence asked
his soldiers to find where he is and bring him back to the kingdom. The soldiers
searched from one end of the kingdom to another but could not find Birbal.

Akbar then came up with an idea to find Birbal. He sent word across the kingdom
that the head of each village has to send him a pot full of wit. Anyone who cannot
send the pot full of wit can instead fill up the pot with gold and diamonds and
send it to him.

Akbar felt the only way to lure Birbal back to the city is to send a challenge his way.
The people in Birbal’s village found the announcement absurd and were
wondering how to fill the pot with wit. Birbal stepped in to help and came up with
a way to give the king what he wanted. He put a small watermelon into the pot
without separating it from its vine. He watered it every day and grew it big
enough so that all the space in the pot was taken up.

Birbal then separated the watermelon from the vine and sent the pot to the king.
The instruction that was sent with the pot read, “You can find the wit in the pot if
you carefully remove the watermelon without cutting it.” Akbar realised that only
Birbal could have sent the pot. He travelled to the village himself and brought
Birbal back to the capital.

Moral: Even the toughest questions can be answered cleverly if you think hard.

4 – The Starfish Story
Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the seaside every
morning to do his writing. He had a habit of walking along the beautiful beach
before starting his work. One beautiful Sunday as per his morning ritual, he
went to sea shore and started walking along the shore. As he moved ahead, he
came along a stretch on which thousands of starfish had washed up. He found
beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both
directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a little girl approaching. As the girl
walked, she paused every so often. When she came closer, the old man could
see that she was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it
into the sea.

The little girl came a bit closer and the old man called out, “Good
morning little princess!!! May I ask what it is that you are doing?” The pretty
little girl paused, looked up and replied, “Throwing starfish into the sea.” The
little girl continued her job of picking and throwing back the starfishes in to
the sea.

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the sea?”, asked the old
man.

To this, the little girl replied, “The tide has washed them up onto the beach
and they can’t return back to the sea by themselves. When the sun gets high,
they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”
Upon hearing this, the old man commented, ‘But, little girl, do you not realize
that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every
mile? There must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you
won’t really be able to make much of a difference!”

The girl bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as she
could into the ocean. Then she turned towards old man, gave a sweet smile
and said, “I made a difference to that one!”

Lessons from the Starfish Story

All of us get the several opportunities to create positive change, but more
often we delay our actions waiting for anyone else to initiate. We
start procrastinating to the bigger challenges by rationalizing “How much of a
difference can I really make?” You might not be able to change the whole
world, but at least you can change a small part of it. Be the change for
someone and bring the change.

The little girl teaches us another very important lesson that we should never
leave the hope, no matter how difficult the challenges or situations are. She
lives with hope in something unknowable. She believes in trying and making
an effort to make a difference. Her life is more meaningful because she lives
with hope and inspires others with her actions.

Inspirational Stories about life – Everything

Happens for Good (Story # 9)
This is an old story of a king in India; who had a very close friend with whom
he grew up. The King used to spend his lot of time along with his best friend.
His friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life
(positive or negative) with optimism and remarking, “This is good, everything
happens for good !” He always tried to look at the things with different
perspective and find out positive impacts of whatever happens in life.

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. They went
in a dense forest and enjoying the adventure. While hunting, the friend would
load and prepare the guns for the king. The king took the gun from his friend
and aimed at the target. When felt that aimed animal is right on target, the
king fired the gun. But at this instance, something unpredictable happened.

The gun misfired and blown off the thumb of the king. His friend had
apparently done something wrong while loading and preparing the gun. Both
of them got shocked, and immediately first aid was done. After this, examining
the situation the friend remarked as usual, “This is good, everything happens
for good !” The King got angry that my thumb has been blown off, due to his
mistake. Still his friend is saying, ” This is Good !” The king replied with
annoyance, “No, this is NOT good!” and immediately ordered to send his
friend to jail.

About couple of months later, the king was hunting in an area that he should
have known to avoid. Cannibals captured him and took him to their village.
They tied his both hands, collected some wood, set up a stake, and bound him
to the stake. As they came close to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the
king was missing a thumb. Being superstitious cannibals, they never ate
anyone that was less than whole. So the cannibals untied the king, and sent
him on his way.
As the king returned home, he remembered the incident that had blown off
his thumb and felt sad for his treatment to his friend. The king immediately
went to the jail to apologize. The king requested his friend to forgive him and
said. “You were right !!! It was good that my thumb was blown off on that day
during hunting.” And he proceeded to tell the friend all that had just
happened and how cannibals freed him due to his missing thumb. The kind
said ” I am very sorry for sending you to jail after getting annoyed on that day.
It was a bad decision on my part. Please forgive me”

“No,” his friend replied, “That was good , everything happens for good !”

The king got surprised with his positivism and asked, “What do you mean, how
was that good?” “How could it be good in any way that I sent my friend to jail
for couple of months?” questioned the king. His friend smiled and replied, “If I
had NOT been in jail, I would have been with you. The cannibals would have
killed me and made me their food.”

Inspirational Story Moral

Whatever happens in life, happens for good. Every incident in life has
connection with future incidents, which we are not able to see at that point of
time. We are only able to relate it back once that connecting future incident
happens. When we connects those past incidents, we realize the significance.
Therefore, we should always be optimistic and look brighter parts of the
things.

The Story also inspires to practice gratitude in life. Whatever happens, we

should be thankful for what we have, instead of getting sad about what we
have lost. We must focus our spotlight on the positive parts and look at the
things with wholeness.
