Implementation:
The system consisted of the following components:
IoT Devices: These devices were installed at various points in the user's home or building
to measure power consumption. The devices were equipped with sensors to collect data
and send it to a central server.
Central Server: The central server received data from the IoT devices, processed it, and
stored it in a database. The server also hosted a web application that provided users with a
dashboard to view their energy usage data.
Database: The database stored the power consumption data collected from the IoT devices.
It was designed to handle large volumes of data and provide fast access to the data for
analysis.
User Interface: The web application provided users with a dashboard where they could
view their energy usage data in real-time. The dashboard displayed information such as
current power consumption, historical usage data, and tips for reducing energy
consumption.
2. Requirement of Innovative Design/Idea:
a. Scalability: The design should be scalable to accommodate high foot traffic areas like
bus stops.
b. Efficiency: Ensure maximum energy conversion efficiency from pressure to
electrical energy.
c. Durability: The system should withstand constant pressure from foot traffic and
varying weather conditions.
d. Smart Energy Monitoring Devices: Develop IoT devices that not only measure power
consumption but also provide real-time feedback to users on how to optimize their
energy usage. For example, the device could suggest turning off certain appliances
during peak energy usage times.
f. Integration with Renewable Energy Sources: Create a system that not only monitors
power consumption but also integrates with renewable energy sources (e.g., solar
panels, wind turbines). This allows users to track their renewable energy generation
and overall energy usage, promoting sustainability.
h. Mobile App Interface: Design a user-friendly mobile app that allows users to monitor
their energy usage remotely, receive notifications about unusual consumption patterns,
and control their appliances remotely to optimize energy usage.
i. Community Sharing Platform: Create a platform where users can share their energy-
saving tips and strategies with others in the community. This fosters a sense of
community engagement and encourages collective efforts to reduce energy
consumption.
j. Energy Consumption Insights: Provide users with detailed insights into their energy
consumption patterns, such as which appliances consume the most energy and how
usage varies throughout the day. This empowers users to make informed decisions
about their energy usage habits.
k. Integration with Smart Home Systems: Integrate the energy monitoring system with
existing smart home systems (e.g., Amazon Alexa, Google Home) to enable voice
control and seamless integration with other smart home devices.
Feasibility:
Effectiveness:
User Experience: Evaluate how the proposed design will impact the user experience.
Consider factors such as ease of use, accessibility, and the ability to provide meaningful
insights and recommendations to users.
Energy Savings: Assess the potential impact of the proposed design on energy savings.
Consider how the design can help users reduce their energy consumption and how this
reduction can translate into cost savings and environmental benefits.
Integration: Determine how well the proposed design integrates with existing systems
and technologies. Consider whether it can seamlessly integrate with smart home
systems, renewable energy sources, and other IoT devices.
Impact:
The proposed design for the IoT-based power consumption monitoring system shows promise
in providing users with valuable insights into their energy usage patterns and empowering
them to make informed decisions to reduce their energy consumption.
