PROCRASTINATION: A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR THE WHOLE NATION
Have you ever had a day where you just want to slack off? Have you
ever had a task given to you and you’re like “Meh,” Well, if you have
experienced such things, then you are not alone. Procrastination is a
problem that’s experience throughout the whole nation. How will qualitative
research be of help in this worldwide crisis?
I first heard this word in a Cartoon Network TV series named “The
Amazing World of Gumball” in which there was an episode where Gumball
was ignoring his duties and chores inside their house. In that I knew that
there was an existing word called “procrastination”. Wikipedia states that
procrastination is “the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be
accomplished by a certain deadline.” As mentioned, it’s becoming a global
epidemic and people are getting lazier and lazier each day. In fact, in a
2007 study found out that over 95% of college students procrastinated on a
regular basis, particularly when it came to completing assignments and
coursework. From my personal experience, college students are not the
only ones who experience it, even I, a senior high school student,
experience it. Maybe because when given heavy tasks, we think of it as a
difficult work and we decide to just chill out and cram later.
Procrastination, in my opinion, is a great subject for a qualitative
research because firstly, it is becoming a worldwide phenomenon;
secondly, solutions have to be made; and lastly, I, myself, can relate to this
certain topic and it’s very interesting. Since this is a qualitative research, I
only need others’ opinions, thoughts, and ideas, rather than collecting
numerical data. The selection of respondents might only be limited to
students of Kidapawan City National High School for the number of
procrastinators are among teens or young people at my age.
In conclusion, procrastination is a global thing and one way to spread
awareness about it is through a qualitative research. Procrastination has to
be somehow stopped, and with my study, a change might happen.
