PROJECTILE MOTION
1. A batter hits a baseball so that it leaves the bat at
speed 37.0 m/s at an angle θ=53.1. Find the
following:
a. Position of the ball at t=2 sec
b. Velocity (magnitude and direction) at t=2 sec
c. Time when the ball reaches the highest point of
its flight
d. Maximum height reached by the ball
e. Horizontal range from the starting point
f. Total time of flight of the ball
2. A ball kicked from ground level at an
initial velocity of 69m/s and an angle θ
with the ground reaches a horizontal
distance of 150m. Find the following:
a. θ
b. Total time of flight
3. A stone is kicked horizontally at 8.0 m/s
from a cliff 80 m high. How far from the
base of the cliff will the stone strike the
ground?
4. Jason Kendall throws a baseball with a
horizontal component of velocity of 25
m/s. It takes 3.00 s to come back to its
original height. Calculate the following:
a. Horizontal range
b. Initial vertical component of velocity
c. Initial angle of projection
5. Farmer John and his horse Flash jump
a 100-m wide canyon. The flight through
the air takes 5 sec. Find the initial velocity
(both magnitude and direction)
6. A catapult launches a rock at a castle wall. The rock is
launched at a 45 degree angle with a speed of 22 m/s. The
castle wall is 45-m away and is 20-m high.

a. Does the rock make it over the wall?

b. What is the maximum height reached by the rock?
c. What is the horizontal range covered by the stone?
d. Compute for the velocity initial for the rock to make it
over the wall.
e. What is the new maximum height reached by the stone
given the new initial velocity?
f. What is the new horizontal range covered by the stone?
7. A ball kicked from ground level at an
initial velocity of 69 m/s and an angle θ
with the ground reaches a horizontal
distance of 150 meters.
a. What is the angle θ?
b. What is the total time of flight of the
ball?
