Laboratory Activity for 3.2
Direction:

Density is the ratio of an object’s mass to its volume. It is necessary to measure the mass
of
an object accurately as well as compute its volume before finding their ratio. Do this activity
to find out whether the density of identical objects is the same after measuring its mass and
computing for its volume separately.

Materials
 four identical cubes (e.g. dice)
 electronic balance
 caliper or ruler
 calculator

Procedure
1. Provide each member of the group with a cube and a caliper (or a ruler).
2. Let each member measure the length of one side of the cube assigned to them.
Then, have them compute for its volume by multiplying its length thrice.
3. Measure the mass of each cube using an electronic balance.
4. Once all the necessary measurements are obtained, record them in the table below.
5. Compute the density of each cube by dividing the mass of each cube to its volume.
6. Answer the guide questions below.

Guide Questions:
1. How will you describe the measurements obtained by the members of your group?

2. What could be the reason why some measurements obtained vary?

3. Is the density of identical objects used in this activity consistent? Why or why not?

4. What are the possible sources of errors in measurements?
