In the year, Irene a civil servant earned a basic salary of Ksh 62, 000 per month. She also enjoyed the
following allowances: commuter allowance of Ksh. 10, 750 and a medical allowance of Ksh 12 250. Irene
stays in the employer’s house which she pays a nominal rent of Ksh. 5, 800. She has a life insurance
policy for which she pays Ksh. 3 400 per month. She contributed Ksh.6 200 towards a pension fund,
which is exempted from taxation. She was entitled to a personal relief of Ksh. 1 056 per month and an
insurance relief of 20 % of the premium paid up to a maximum of Ksh. 400.
Calculate to 2 decimal place;

19. The sum of the first six terms of an arithmetic series is 81. The sum of its eleven terms is 231. Find;

21. The figure below represents a solid frustrum. Each of the slanting edges AF, DE, BG and CH are equal
to 26 cm. Determine to one decimal place:

22. The polygon with vertices A, B, C, D and E. AB = 3.5 m, AE = 10 m, ED = 5.2 m and DC = 6.9 m. The
bearing of B from A is 30◦ and A is due east of E while D is due North of E and ∠EDC = 110◦.

(b) A foundation is to be placed near to CD than CB and not more than 6 metres from A.

23. In a class there are 24 girls and 30 boys. The probability that a girl participates in games is 0.4
whereas that of a boy is 0.6.
a. A student is picked at random from the class. Find the probability that the student picked:
i. Is a boy and will participate in games. (2 marks)
b. Two bags A and B are such that, bag A contains 3 blue balls and 7 red balls while bag B
contains 4 red balls and 8 blue balls. The balls are similar in shape and size. A ball is drawn
from A and B. Determine the probability that:
i. One of the balls drawn is red. (2 marks)
24. An auto spares dealer sells two types of lubricants A and B in his shop. While purchasing type A cost
Ksh. 40 per 100ml tin and type B costs Ksh. 60 per 100ml tin. He decides to buy at least 30 tins
altogether of type A and B with Ksh. 1500 available. He decides that at least one third of this should
be of type B.
(a) Write down three inequalities, which represent the above information. (3 marks)
(b) On the grid provided below, draw a graph to show the three inequalities in (a) above. (4 marks)
(c) Determine how many tins of each type that he should buy to maximize his profit if he makes a
profit of Ksh 10 of each type A tin and a profit of Ksh 20 on each type B tin. (3 marks)
