2. Express the numbers; 238140 and 1275750 as a product of their prime factors using
the index notation. Hence, simplify; 1275750 ÷ 238140 (2marks)

3. The average mark scored by the first 27 students in a Mathematics test is 52. The
average mark scored by the remaining 37 is 58. Calculate the mean mark for the whole
class. (3marks)
4. Find the equation of a line L1 passing through (3, -2) and is perpendicular to another
line L2 which makes an angle of 450 with the x – axis. Give your answer in the form of
y = mx + c (3marks)

5. A rectangle measures 11cm by 7cm. The length and breadth of the rectangle are both
reduced by the same amount. The area then reduces by 32cm2. Find the new
dimensions of the rectangle (4marks)

6. Three grams of metal A of density 2.7g/cm3 is mixed with 1.6cm3 of metal B of density
3.2g/cm3. Determine the density of the mixture (3marks)
7. The diagram below shows a triangle and its image after a rotation. By means of
construction, determine the centre and angle of rotation. (3marks)

12. In fourteen years’ time, a mother will be twice as old as her son. Four years ago, the sum
of their age 30 years. Find how old the mother was when the son was born. (4marks)

13. Musa bought a machine worth 2,950,000 Japanese yens. In Kenya he was charged a
custom duty of 20% on the value of the machinery. If the exchange rates were as
follows.
1 us dollar 118 Japanese yens
1 us dollar = 76 Kenya shillings
Calculate the duty paid in Kenya shillings. (3marks)

14. A metallic sphere of radius 10.5cm was melted. The molten material was then used to
make a cube. Find the length of one side of the cube. (3marks)
15. A scale of amp is given as 1: 20,000. fin d the actual area in hectares of a region
represented by a triangle of sides 6 cm and 4 cm and angle between sides is 30o
(4marks)

16. The sum of interior angles of a regular polygon is 24 times the size of the exterior angle. Find the
number of sides of the polygon (3 marks)
17. A certain number of youths in their youth group agreed to contribute equally to buy books

worth shs. 12,000 for a school library. Five youths pulled out so that others agreed to contribute

an extra shs. 100 each. Their contributions enabled them to buy books worth shs. 2000 more

than they originally expected.

a) If the original number of youths was x, write down

i) An expression of how much each was originally to contribute. (1mk)

ii) An expression of how much each contributed after the five pulled out. (1mk)

b) Calculate the value of x. (4marks)

c) Calculate how much each youth was expected to contribute originally (2marks)

d) The number of youths who actually made the contribution and how much each made
(2 marks)
18. A town planner positioned social amenities in a town plan as follows; a hospital X is
1620m from a school S on bearing 0570. A sports ground Y is 1200m from the
school on a bearing 1850. A social hall Z is 1500m from the hospital and on a
bearing 1520. A church C is 1200m from the hospital and on a bearing 2760.
a) Using a scale 1cm represent 200m, make a scale drawing of the positions of the
health centre X, the sports ground Y, the social hall Z and the church C. (5marks)

b) How far is;


i) The health centre from the sports ground (2marks)

ii) The social hall from the church (2marks)

c) The bearing of the church from the sports ground (1mark)


19. The table below shows the ages of people in a year who attended a wedding ceremony.

20. Mary and Alex contributed a total capital of Ksh. 800, 000 to start a joint business.
Mary contributed 31.25% of the capital. A profit of Ksh 72,000 was realized by the
end of the year. Part of this profit was paid out as follows.
a) Mary received basic management allowances of Ksh 7,000 plus 7.5% of the
profit and a partnership allowances equivalent to 3.2% of her capital.
Calculate the total allowances paid to Mary (3marks)

b) Determine the fraction of the profit that was paid as allowances (2marks)

c) The remaining part of the profit was shared between Mary and Alex in the
ratio of the capital they had each contributed. Express the total amount Mary
received as a percentage of the profit. (5marks)
21. The figure below shows a container in form of a frustum of an open top radius 40cm and
base radius 24 cm. the depth is 56 cm.

22. A bus left Nairobi at 8.00am and traveled towards Busia at an average speed of 80km/hr.
At 8.30 am a car left Busia for Nairobi at an average speed of 120km/hr.
Given that the distance between Nairobi and Busia is 400km.

Calculate:
a) The time the car arrived in Nairobi. (2mks)

b) The time the two vehicles met. (4mks)

c) The distance from Nairobi to the meeting point. (2mks)

d) The distance of the bus from Busia when the car arrived in Nairobi. (2mks)
23. In the figure below, EG is the diameter of the circle center O. Points B,G,D,E and F are
on the circumference of the circle .<BFD = 500,<BEO =250 and line ABC is tangent to
the circle at B.
