FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION
Education has always been considered as a social process wherein a community, society or nation
has sought to transmit and preserve its traditions, culture and values which were considered
fundamental for its own stability and survival.
The course is divided into three units, the historical, the philosophical, and the legal foundations of
education. The historical part will deal with facts about how education started, it forms, aims,
agencies and goals. The philosophical units will encompass the different views of well renowned
educational philosophers about education itself, how learning occurs, and how to deal with individual
differences. Lastly, the legal bases of education will lead us to understand how education system
came to be in the Philippines.
