BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PSYCHOLOGY:

FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

Education has always been considered as a social process wherein a community, society or nation
has sought to transmit and preserve its traditions, culture and values which were considered
fundamental for its own stability and survival.

The course is divided into three units, the historical, the philosophical, and the legal foundations of
education. The historical part will deal with facts about how education started, it forms, aims,
agencies and goals. The philosophical units will encompass the different views of well renowned
educational philosophers about education itself, how learning occurs, and how to deal with individual
differences. Lastly, the legal bases of education will lead us to understand how education system
came to be in the Philippines.

The course in Foundation of Education will introduce the


student to the different educational philosophies and legal
bases as well as the Historical aspect of education. The
course will equip students with the knowledge regarding the
different educational philosophies and legal bases of
education to become a more competitive professional.

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:


1. The student will be able to identify, differentiate and utilize the different philosophers and
philosophies being utilized in the field of education and the legal mandates.
2. The student will be able to define and give examples on how the different philosophies are
being used in teaching.
3. The student will be able to utilize the knowledge gain in the field of teaching.
