DIRECTIVES:

How to Write Crisis Notes (Personal Directives)

Crisis Notes are the dominant medium for taking individual action in committee by
using your portfolio powers. Delegates will continually sending Crisis Notes to shape
the crisis at hand, to both fix the issue and bring more power or prestige to themselves.

Main Components of a Solid Crisis Note

■ Memorable Title (can be funny or serious, but needs a name)


■ Addressee (Somebody under your command, or just their title)
■ Specific orders or actions that you would like to see undertaken
■ What you expect/hope will be the result (So the Crisis Staff can figure out
what the result will be if they don’t understand your goal)
■ signature, with your title

Goals

■ Demonstrate expertise and thorough planning to impress Crisis Staff


■ Clearly state what you want, and why, so they can decide to grant or deny it
■ Do it so well that the crisis staff is afraid to shoot you down without good
reasons

Things to keep in mind before writing a directive:


1. Who are you writing the directive to?

2. What you want to accomplish through this directive? (aim/goal)

3. When you want the action to be done? (date, time, year, etc)

4. Where do you want your directive to happen? (place)

5. Why do you want it to happen? (reason)

6. How are you planning to accomplish it? (the plan of action)

TYPES OF DIRECTIVES
1. Overt directive: overt means show or done publicly. if the overt directive passes, the rest of the
committee will be notified that you have submitted the directive.

2. Covert directive: covert means not openly displayed your covert directive will be published without
your name and identity. Covert directives are mostly done if you want to submit a directive regarding
espionage and similar matters.

3. Public directive

It acts as a draft resolution in crisis committees. The number of sponsors can be 1⁄3 of the delegates
present in the committee session. The directive should solve the recent crisis issues brought up by the
crisis directors in the committee session.

4. Joint directive (Overt/covert)

A joint directive is a directive written by two or more delegates presented in the committee session,
with similar interest regarding the issue Personal directive (Overt/covert) A personal directive is written
by one delegate in order to reach their goals throughout the committee session. Like other directives, it
needs to be approved by the crisis directors.

5. Secret directive

A secret directive is similar to a personal convert directive. It can be used for cases such as espionage, a
secret investigation regarding the issue, the assassination of a member, or any private action a delegate
would like to take.

I)
Directive 1.0 (Covert)

By- French Republic

To- The executive board

Aim- providing Israel with military assistance

1) The French Republic will be borrowing Douglas C-54 from the USA for caring out some
military actions

2) 25 troops of BCRA will be leaving for the nearest military base to Suez Canal and will join the
Israeli forces to help them prevent this invasion.

3) The troops will be armed with the following weapons-

A. 2 Berthier Mle 1907/15 M16 rifle

B. 3 FUSIL MAS36 CR39 Rifle

C. 3 M1917 Enfield rifle

D. 3 FM24/29 machine gun

E. 3 French Hotchkiss model 197 machine gun

F. 7 F1 Grenades

4) All the troops will be going on a Douglas C-54 (which was borrowed from the USA)

5) The whole operation shall start at 16 March, Morning 4:00 am

6) Time for arrival- 6:00 am

Directive 2.0 (Covert)

To- The Executive Board

From- The French Republic


Aim- Assassination of Egyptian President

1) French Republic will be giving a new task to DEUXIÈME BUREAU to assassinate the Egyptian
President.

2) One of the Members of the French military will take one sniper and be near the airport

3) 2 men from DEUXIÈME BUREAU will be going to Egypt through a normal passenger plane

4) On 21th May, the Men will be leavening for Egypt

5) The militant who had the sniper will hand over the gun to DEUXIÈME BUREAU members

6) When the President will to the mosque for his daily prayers, one of the men will be looking
around, making sure that no one comes in between of their operation

7) The other man will be on the top floor of a meat shop which is near the mosque

8) As soon as the president comes out of his car, the man in the meat shop will carry out his
assassination and will shoot him

9) Later, the person who handed the gun will come with a car and will take the men back to the
airport for their flight.

10) The gun will be left at the meat shop itself, but all the fingerprints shall be wiped out.

PRESS RELEASE:
How to Write Press Releases

Press Releases are tools used by committees or individuals to inform “the public” in the crisis about
certain facts, or to spread misinformation about the ongoing crisis.

Often, delegates may use these to try to influence public opinion against certain plans to help their own,
to encourage the public to be safe, to stop protesting, or even to get involved with the crisis somehow.

Main Components of a Solid Press Release

• Header stating that it is a Press Release

• Descriptive Headline
• Information that you want the public to have and react to

• Signature/s Goals

• To inform/ misinform the public about the crisis to get the public to react in a certain way

• To share information with the committee that was previously a secret

• To encourage a response from the international community
