Checkpoint Reflection #2

Follow the directions listed in each section. You must complete all the
sections. Point value of each section is given in the []. Use course notes,
PowerPoints, discussions to support your answers. Answer ALL questions
on a separate document.

Directions: Answer ALL the questions. Your answer may be in bullet point
form, they do not need to be long, elaborate answers.
1. List as least 3 examples of moral evil.
2. List at least 3 examples of natural evil.
3. List at least 3 examples of social evil.
4. List at least 3 examples of systemic evil.

Directions: Choose ONE question to answer. Your response needs to be
thoughtful, include use of class notes, and in paragraph form (at least 4-5
sentences).
1. Considering revenge, indiJerence, and change making, what is the
best response to evil? Why?
2. Give an example of a change making response that you have
witnessed.
3. Which response to evil do you use most often? Explain your answer.

Directions: Choose ONE question to answer. Your response needs to be
thoughtful, include use of class notes, and in paragraph form (at least 4-5
sentences).
1. When someone leans on you in in the midst of pain and suJering,
what certainty might you oJer them?
2. What is helpful for you to hear when you are in pain?
3. Explain a situation in which someone turned to you for comfort. How
did you help them?

Directions: Choose ONE question to answer. Note that this section is a
more thoughtful look at Screwtape. Follow the directions as listed in the
question for how long your response should be.
1. Imagine that you are Wormwood’s “patient”. What advice would
Screwtape give Wormwood to pull you away from a relationship with
God? Pretend to be Screwtape and write a letter to with the advice he
should give.
2. Reverse the writing. Choose one letter in the Screwtape Letters.
Pretend that you are the “senior” divine angel. Write letter to a
“junior” angel and instruct them on how to respond to the
temptations/distractions of Wormwood.
3. Choose one letter in Screwtape Letters. How does this letter
correspond to Christian theology? Research Bible verse and
theologies that this letter speaks about. Write 2-5 paragraphs to
explain.

[15] Section 5:
Directions: Choose ONE question to answer. Note that this section is a
more extensive and vulnerable response. It should be at least 2-3
paragraphs (maybe longer) and is a time for you to reflect on your own life.
1. Reflect on a time of pain and suJering in your own life. Describe the
situation. What questions did you ask during this time? Who helped
you and comforted you? What helped you overcome the pain? What
did you learn about yourself and others?
2. Discuss the impact COVID-19 had on your life. Write about how you
felt going through it and the lock-down. What suJering have your
personally encountered because of COVID? What blessings have you
witnessed due to COVID?
