Download the blueprints for your yacht:

Click here to download your yacht blueprints

Open SOLIDWORKS

Go to: Start > Programs > SOLIDWORKS

Create a new part

Open a new part with model units set to millimeters.

Go to: File > New > Part

Select the three planes in the feature tree and


make them visible by clicking on the glasses.

Create a new sketch on the Front Plane

Select the Front Plane in the Feature Manager

Click on the 2D Sketch icon to make a new sketch

Go to: Tools > Sketch Tools > Sketch Picture

Browse to the YachtTutorial map and go to: Blueprints > Select “Blueprint_Front.PNG”

Click: Open

Change the dimensions and the position of the blueprint as shown in the picture (The scale calculations are already done for you)

Select “Full image” in the Transparency tab and change the transparency into 0,40

Click OK

Click on the Front Plane and drag at the corner balls to increase the Plane size as shown in the picture

Close the sketch

Change the name of Sketch1

Click on Sketch1 in the feature tree


twice (slow, no double click)

Change the name into:


BLUEPRINT_FRONTVIEW

Create a new sketch on the Right Plane

Select the Right Plane in the Feature Manager

Click on the 2D Sketch icon to make a new sketch

Go to: Tools > Sketch Tools > Sketch Picture

Browse to the YachtTutorial map:


Blueprints > Select “Blueprint_Side.PNG”

Click: Open

Change the dimensions and the positions of the blueprint as shown in the picture

Select “Full image” in the Transparency tab and change the transparency into 0,40

Click OK

Click on the Right Plane and drag at the corner balls to increase the Plane size as shown in the picture

Change the name of Sketch2

Change the name into: BLUEPRINT_SIDEVIEW

Create a new sketch on the Top Plane

Select the Top Plane in the Feature Manager

Click on the 2D Sketch icon to make a new sketch

Go to: Tools > Sketch Tools > Sketch Picture

Browse to the YachtTutorial map:


Blueprints > Select “Blueprint_Bottom.PNG”

Click: Open

Change the name of Sketch3

Click on Sketch3 in the feature tree twice (slow, no double click)

Change the name into: BLUEPRINT_BOTTOMVIEW

Change the name of the Top Plane

Click on the Top Plane in the feature tree twice (slow, no double click)

Change the name into: Bottom Plane

Create a new plane

Go to: Insert > Reference Geometry > Plane or click on the New Plane icon

First Reference : Select the Front Plane

Change the Offset Distance into: 32920 mm

Click on the Flip option to flip the offset direction of the Plane

Click OK

Change the name of Plane 1

Click on Plane1 in the feature tree twice (slow, no double click)

Change the name into: Back Plane

Create a new sketch on the new Back Plane

Select the Back Plane in the Feature Manager

Click on the 2D Sketch icon to make a new sketch

Go to: Tools > Sketch Tools > Sketch Picture

Browse to the YachtTutorial map:


Blueprints > Select “Blueprint_Back.PNG”

Click: Open

Select “Flip Horizontally” to make sure that the ship horns are at the same side as in BLUEPRINT FRONTVIEW

Click OK

Close the sketch

Change the name of Sketch4

Click on Sketch4 in the feature tree twice


(slow, no double click)

Change the name into: BLUEPRINT_BACKVIEW

Create a New Plane

Go to: Insert > Reference Geometry > Plane or click on the New Plane icon

First Reference : Select the Bottom Plane

Change the Offset Distance into: 10000 mm

Click OK

Change the name of Plane2

Click on Plane2 in the feature tree twice (slow, no double click)

Change the name into: Top Plane

Select the Top Plane in the Feature Manager

Click on the 2D Sketch icon to make a new sketch

Go to: Tools > Sketch Tools > Sketch Picture

Change the name of the Right Plane

Click on Right Plane in the feature tree twice (slow, no double click)

Change the name into: Mid Plane

Change the order of the Planes and Sketches for a better overview

Select the Back Plane and drag it to above as shown in the picture

Select the Top Plane and drag it to above as shown in the picture

Save your file

Click on the Save icon

Give your file the following name: Blueprint_Setup
