1. Formalism (What are the forms that can be found in the painting above?
Briefly describe each.)
Formalism describes the critical position that the most important aspect of
a work of art is its form the way it is made and its purely visual aspects rather
than its narrative content or its relationship to the visible world. In painting
therefore, a formalist critic would focus exclusively on the qualities of color,
brushwork, form, line and composition.

2. Expressionism (How do you think the artist was feeling when he created the
artwork?)
Expressionism is an intensely personal art form. The expressionist artist strives
to convey his personal feelings about the object painted, rather than
merely record his observation of it. Thus, in order to achieve maximum
impact on the viewer, representational accuracy is sacrificed in favor of
strong outlines and bold colors.
