an artistic idea through written
lyrics, text, dramatization, and

Performing arts usually require the

art forms, such as literary art for
the material and visual arts for

An integration of various art
forms has become more and
more evident in contemporary
arts. With people of different
cultures having contact with
each other, it is inevitable that
artists lift styles and techniques
from different practices.

Elements of Art
“The foundation of every
artwork.”

The elements of art are the building blocks used
by artists to create a work of art.
These creative building blocks are essential and
having a grasp on how they work is important both
for the artist and for lovers of art.

The Artist and the Artwork
There would be no artwork or
any forms of art without the
seven elements of art.
SPACE
It is the area
between and
around objects.

It is a series of
points and mark
with greater length
than width.
It is formed by SHAPE

ends of a line.
Shapes are two
dimensional figures
with height and
width.

shapes, it has more
depth and does not feel

COLOR
Color is light reflected off
of objects. Color has three
main characteristics: hue,
value , and intensity.
VALUE
Value is considered a
property of a color which
pertains to its lightness or
darkness.

It is the surface quality that
can be seen and felt.

Principles of Art
“The arrangement of visual
elements.”

They are used to organize the basic elements of art and often
referred to as principles of organization or design principles.

Another important element in creating art is COMPOSITION,


the placement of visual elements in an artwork, and art principles
help figure out the arrangement of those visual elements.

visual weight of objects,
colors, texture, and space.
Types of Balance
It is the part of the design
that catches the viewer’s

will make one area stand
out by contrasting it with
other areas. The area could
be different in size, color,
texture, shape, etc.

It refers to the relationship

dancing. To keep rhythm

is essential.

monotony of an artwork and
make it more interesting
