In this learning activity sheet, you will be doing researches as to the various
contemporary forms in the Philippines, produced by Philippine artists of the 21st
century which reflect Filipino identity. Philippine arts have been a result of social
realism brought about by Martial Law and the styles are influenced by Renaissance,
Baroque and modern arts. Filipino artists like Ronald Ventura, whose works in
paintings and sculptures are multi layered, reflect multi-faceted identity of Filipinos.
Elmer Borlongan for one, is a CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) awardee
whose paintings are famous for figurative expressionism. Many other Filipino artists
excel in the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, and music. As we
move farther, you will be evaluating different art forms based on elements such as
line, shape, texture, form, shape, color and value . You will also be given a chance to
compare the different arts from the regions where you will be able to advocate arts in
the Philippines.
