D2- Justifying procedures that may be used to respond to concerns about abuse and

neglect.

In this assignment I will be justifying procedures that may be used to respond to concerns
about abuse and neglect in Walters NHS Trust Holly Ward and Cherry Tree Nursery/Children
Centre. It is important to communicate. The way in which you or your company manages
information and records can have a significant impact. Sometimes sharing information can
build a picture that could help identify poor practice or abuse. It's important to quickly and
accurately document safeguarding concerns for a number of reasons: Early on, concerns and
abusive behaviours are identified. The Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR) procedure may
benefit from its guidance. When a concern is raised, it helps with Section 42 safeguarding
inquiries. When reporting concerns about abuse in health and social care services, it is helpful
to have interactions with staff and service users and to have a clear record of interventions.
This is because accurate and recent records of safeguarding issues are important for several
reasons: They may help you in spotting issues early on. They will help you in spotting
alarming patterns. They can help you record little problems so you can get a greater
understanding of what someone might be going through. Also, they support you in watching
over and handling safeguarding procedures, including choices made, actions taken, and
agreements to collaborate with other organisations and they can give you proof to back up
judgements you make while working with other agencies as well as within your own
organisation. Clear documentation can help you show what measures you took to reduce the
harm and may also act as a source of stability if volunteers or staff members are unavailable
or change. It is necessary to document every instance of abuse and complaints about
insufficient procedures. This is because, if ignored, a pattern of poor practise incidents might
turn into more serious ones. It's crucial to communicate especially if there has previously
been complaints about neglect or abuse, they should always be followed up. Understanding
the warning signs of abuse is essential, as is sincerely bringing up your concerns with the
person you think is being abused. Waiting could
cause the abuse to continue and worsen the situation in the hopes that the victim would tell
you what has been happening to them.It is also important to follow the institution when
reports of concern of abuse or neglect are being made. Section 42 of the Care Act should be
followed in these situations as it states abuse should be by a service user if they:have needs
for care and support (whether the local authority is meeting any ofthose needs),are
experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect,as a result of those care and support needs are
unable to protect themselves from either the risk of, or the experience of abuse or
neglect. These are referred to as the ‘three key tests’. If these tests are met the local authority
has a legal duty to make enquiries or cause others to do so. Concerns that lack of the
requirements for the Section 42 obligation to investigate may be handled in other ways, such
as by evaluating the needs for support and care or by passing therelevant information to
another service or organisation. The local authority should always notify the person who
showed the safeguarding issue that it has been received and, if appropriate, let them know
how the matter is being handled. It is important for services to work with multi-agency teams
as children and vulnerable adults are protected from harm and abuse by multi-agency
teamwork, which guarantees their best interests. First, various claims of child abuse and
neglect are received by professionals with different backgrounds. The National Society for
the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), the Police, and Social Services are the
organisations with the legal authority to step in if there is concern of neglect or abuse towards
a child. Safeguarding is a statutory duty of local authorities. They havean obligation to
support adults' welfare along with health. When reports of concern of abuse or neglect have
been taken some of the agencies involved the police work alongside multi agency teams to
share the information it has. If it is for a childrens centre similar to Cherry Tree Childrens
Centre, then the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) who are
a voluntary organisation with a right to apply for a court order to safeguard children may
work alongside multi agency teams. It is built up from a team of social workers who work
together with local social workers. Medical staff and health visitors may be alongside multi-
agency teams too.It is crucial that the law investigate cases of abuse and neglect because
some cases ofabuse may be excruciating and will be needed to be further investigated, abuse
is a crime so the law should investigate cases of it. A poor health and safety culture can be
disastrous for service users and employees, so it’s important to invest time to get it right and
try to avoid abuse and neglect at all costs. A negative impact for service users due to failure
of following policies and procedures could be illness or injuries and a decrease in
productivity.

Cherry Tree Children’s CentreIn the Cherry Tree Children’s Centre there are also some
procedures or actions that should have been taken to address concerns. Such as “, Lisa fell off
the climbing equipment and hurt her leg. The volunteer who was supervising the session
checked Lisa’s leg and declared that there was no damage”. This might benefit the service
user in some way. Lisa may receive the necessary care and medical evaluations to determine
whether she was injured if it was taken to address her concerns. Her leg might have suffered
severe damage if this abuse concern had gone unaddressed, which would have affected how
she moved and stability. This would have been the outcome of physical abuse or neglect on
the part of the service provider towards the service user.Additionally, another action that can
be taken to address concern is “Joanna noticed that Lisa was limping and decided to take her
to the G.P. for a check-up. The G.P. suspects that Lisa may have cracked a bone” Joanna
might make a difference if she reported this as possible abuse to the appropriate authorities.
The positive impact is that she can stop other children from experiencing the same problem
by reporting the centre for failing to supervise her child, which could prevent accidents and
injuries with other children. Addressing this to survivors of abuse may have the negative
effect of preventing the centre from acknowledging their mistakes and carrying on with their
inadequate caregiving practises.
