NOTE

EUNOIA is a Greek word (εὔνοιᾰ="beautiful

thinking") for the goodwill generated by a
speaker between his audience and himself. Just
like the meaning of the word, this magazine aims
at finding the right path towards meaning of life,
by incorporating beautiful thinking from within.
This is done to help people identify happiness
from moment to moment. The theory of
positive psychology is based on the belief that
happiness is derived from both emotional and
mental factors.

EMOTIONAL RELEASE: A PERFECT
GIFT TO YOUSELF
When we hear the question, “How are you?” our instinctive response is, “I'm
fine" — in spite of the fact that we may not be fine at all. Our society’s custom
and practice is to mask how we're really feeling and respond with the
standard, glib answer.

The challenge isn’t in expressing your positive emotions and the positive
feelings associated with them. It’s in your negative emotions and the resulting
negative feelings, which require more in-depth thought and practice.
Expressing these emotions will create a respectful emotional awareness on
both sides. You will demonstrate that you are aware of your emotions and
have the courage to be genuine in voicing them.

Every emotion has value and ability to teach us something. Recognizing the
full range of our mood allows us to appreciate the light and shade of life, and
truly value all aspects of human experience. Without moments of sadness, we
couldn't grasp the infinite value of love and contentment.
This particular magazine is dedicated to understanding the value of positive
emotions and how they open up our perspective and experience. It will talk
about joy and other positive emotions can help counter burnout, to the
enlightenment we can get from connecting with other generations.

Mental health is critical to SWB and vice versa. Very crudely, mental
health can be considered the absence of negative psychological
symptoms and the presence of positive ones. What’s important to note
here is that the absence of illness and disease is not considered enough
for people to have good mental health, and it’s where SWB comes into
the definition. By recognizing the role of feelings such as joy, life
satisfaction, fulfillment, purpose, and contentment in life, we have a
more holistic mental health concept. In turn, we can better understand
how to facilitate its development in individuals and populations.

Broaden & Built
Theory of Positive
Emotions

According to this theory,

experiencing any positive
emotion should immediately and
temporarily “broaden” attention,
cognitive, and behavioral
responses. In general,
Fredrickson means that positive
emotions help us to become
more aware of our surroundings
and to take in more of our
external environment.

For example: During the ten day self

reflective activity, I experienced various
moments of joy like meeting my best
friend after so long, going on a family
dinner etc. After engaging in these
moments of joy, it created a desire to
explore new possibilities and express
the creative talents within myself. I even
engaged myself in various skillful tasks.
Hence, it can be aptly concluded that
positive emotions can broaden our
thought-action repertoires and build our
personal resources to increase well
being.

PERMA Model
Martin Seligman developed a theory of wellbeing
called the PERMA model. The model comprises five
elements that create the foundation of a flourishing
life:
1. Positive Emotions;
2. Engagement;
3. Relationships;
4. Meaning;
5. Accomplishments.
Each of these elements has three properties:
1. It contributes to wellbeing;
2. People pursue it for their own sakes, not just to
attain the other elements;
3. It’s measured and defined independently from
the other elements.
