(e) Cold Storage room (f) Thermal Imager

(g) Compressor (h) Extruded polystyrene

Exercise 3: Fill the gaps in the figure (Heat losses from houses) with the
correct words.

2
Exercise 4: Complete this text with the most suitable words from the box.
There is one extra word.
climate change source endless
alternative energy replenished renewable energy

Renewable energy, often referred to as clean energy or alternative energy,

comes from natural sources or processes that are constantly replenished. A
renewable energy source means energy that is sustainable - something that can't
run out, or is endless, like the sun. It means sources of energy that are
alternative to the most commonly used non-sustainable sources - like coal.

The twin threats of energy security and climate change are driving interest in
renewable energy sources such as solar, wind power, biomass, hydropower and
geothermal.

Exercise 5: Multiple Choice Questionnaire. Choose the best answer

c.Air Velocity.
d. Rotational Speed.
e.Electrical values.
f. None of the above.

Exercise 6: Interpretation of technical writings (Heat exchanger

maintenance procedure): Complete the following short text with the words
in the box.

findings recommendations visual condition

leaks check corrosion
 An external visual check for any damage.
 Pressure tests to check for leaks. If there are leaks, we determine how
many and their placement etc.
 Take the cooler apart (some can be taken apart to a greater degree than
others) to look inside and carry out internal visual checks. We are
looking for any wear and tear, signs of erosion or corrosion, and other
issues.

4
 Produce a report on the findings.
 The report should incorporates photos and a description of the issues. If
known, also some history on the unit should be included. Then the
condition of the equipment is reported. Finally, the report should
includes recommendations (including recommendations for further,
advanced testing if necessary).

Exercise 7: Complete the sentences below, using the correct prepositions

insulation - thermal - image
Improper welding has caused heat
leakage in this section of the
freezer insulation, as shown in
this thermal image

Thermal-image- shows- fuses-

too warm -> soon- need-
replaced

The thermal image clearly shows

which fuses are too warm and will
soon need to be replaced

exterior-outlet plugs - to close -

grade-floor-> electric-shock -
damage - equipment -> elevated -
elevated
The exterior outlet plugs are too
close to grade floor which can
imply electric shock and damage
to the equipment. Consequently, it
should be elevated or elevated.

Exercise 9: Communication:
Write a complete dialogue (from finding out about customer needs until closing
the sale) between the salesperson and a customer in a store. The customer wants
to purchase a specific heat pump product, ductless heat pump to install it in his
school, when the salesperson approaches him. Include the
description/advantages of the product (small size, flexibility for zoning or
heating, easier to install, no ducts, interior design flexibility, energy efficient,
ect).
