Laylatul Qadr is one of the most special nights of the year, as it is the night in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed and is described in the Qur’an
as being “better than a thousand months.” As Muslims, we spend the night in worship, which includes reading the Qur’an, performing
supererogatory prayers (nafl salawat), and reciting the best duas for Laylatul Qadr.

So how do we go about calling upon Allah on this auspicious occasion? We can do so in our own language with heartfelt supplications or we can
recite Arabic duas from among the dozens that we are taught in the Qur’an and Sunnah, including those that are specific to Laylatul Qadr.

Dua to Make on Laylatul Qadr

There is a special dua that the Prophet (S) used to recite for Laylatul Qadr.

 The most beautiful dua to make on Laylatul Qadr can be found in a well-known hadith in which Aisha (RA) reported: She said, “O Messenger of
Allah, if I know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say during it?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“Say:

ِ ‫ ت‬5‫عفُو‬
َ ُ‫ ا ْل َعفْوَ فَاعْف‬0‫ُحب‬
‫عن"ي‬ َ 7‫م اِن‬7 ‫ل ُه‬7 ‫ا ْل‬
َ ‫ك‬

Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibb al-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni

“O Allah, You are the Most forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”

[Sahih Muslim]

This is one of the best duas for Laylatul Qadr (https://blog.noorkids.com/a-beautiful-last-10-days-of-ramadan-dua/)because of the way in which
we call upon Allah with His attribute of loving to forgive when asking him to forgive us of our sins. While there are many beautiful duas you can
recite during the last 10 nights of Ramadan (https://blog.noorkids.com/a-beautiful-last-10-days-of-ramadan-dua/) that are not specific to Laylatul
Qadr, the Prophet (S) specifically highlighted this dua as one we should recite, and one that he recited numerous times during the last 10 nights
of Ramadan.

It is reported that Ali ibn Husayn (Zayn al-’Abidin) would recite this dua on Laylatul Qadr while standing, sitting, genuflecting, and prostrating:

“O Allah, I have become a devoted slave to You, having no power for myself to benefit or harm or to turn away evil.
I bear witness of thus upon myself, and I confess to you my weakness, my helplessness, so bless Muhammad (S)
and the family of Muhammad (S) and fulfill your promise to me and all the men and women of forgiveness in this
night. And complete for me what you have given me, for I am indeed your needy, weak, poor, humble servant. O
Allah, do not make me forgetful of mentioning what you have given me, and not of the benevolence you have given
me and not despondent of your answer. And if you delay good or bad, or strength or prosperity, or health or
a"iction, or misery or bliss, indeed You are the Hearer of supplication.”

The Power of a Laylatul Qadr Dua

 Any dua we make on Laylatul Qadr is incredibly powerful.

Laylatul Qadr can occur on any night from the last 10 nights of Ramadan. Although it is popularly considered to be the 27th night of Ramadan,
only Allah (SWT) knows which night it truly is on. Any Laylatul Qadr dua should be made on every night of the last 10 nights, with a particular
focus on the odd nights, as we hope to take advantage of this blessed night.

The Prophet (S) told us, however, where we should search for Laylatul Qadr, “Seek it in the last ten days, on the odd nights,” (Sahih Bukhari and
Sahih Muslim). The ideal way to do so, of course, is to recite the best duas for Laylatul Qadr as often as possible during these nights.

There are many sources that highlight the significance and power of this special night, both in the words of Allah (SWT) found in the Qur’an, and
in the hadith of our beloved Prophet (S).

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an:

“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months”

(Qur’an, 97:3)

The Prophet (S) also told us about the power of making a dua for Laylatul Qadr:

“Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven”

(Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

When we make a dua on Laylatul Qadr with true faith and sincerity for the pleasure of Allah (SWT), Allah (SWT) loves to grant it and forgive us of
our sins. As our focus in this life is always on the Akhirah, what better use of our duas than to ask for forgiveness so we have ease in our
judgment for determining our permanent home in the next life?

If we truly desire to try and figure out when exactly Laylatul Qadr is, you can use simple and rigorous strategies to find it as highlighted in this
study (https://www.academia.edu/download/66507599/Qadr.pdf). However, our focus and e#orts should lie primarily in the duas we should
make, not in just searching for this night.

In preparation for Ramadan and ibadah (worship) during Laylatul Qadr, it is important for parents to teach our children the power of dua, and the
significance of this glorious night. First and foremost, we can get our children excited about Ramadan by focusing on what they love most about

Learning the Best Duas for Laylatul Qadr Before Ramadan

Arrives

We should plan to make sincere, heartfelt duas when searching for Laylatul Qadr.

There are still a few months before Ramadan arrives that we can utilize to learn the best duas for Laylatul Qadr. If we learn them well enough to
recite them by heart and internalize their meanings, then we will be better able to make heartfelt, sincere duas as we call out to Allah (SWT)
during the last ten nights.

As we hope to find Laylatul Qadr, our endless duas should be made with true sincerity and passion, for it is the most sincere duas that Allah
(SWT) loves to answer.
