• The frontend device at the receiver of optical communication.
• Convert the received optical signal in to electrical domain to
recover the information signal.
• Photodetectors are many types:

 Phototransisitors
 Pyroelectric photodetectors

• Among them, semiconductor photodetector are suitable for optical
communication because of their:
