WARM-UP
Ask: Where do you usually go on vacation? What are your

favorite places for a vacation? Why? What do you enjoy doing

on vacation? Elicit answers from individual sts and encourage

them to talk about their own experiences.

1 A Sts look at the pictures and discuss the question in


pairs. Check answers and discuss with the class the

difference between a tourist and a traveler.

Possible answer

A tourist mainly wants to relax, see famous places, and

have fun, whereas a traveler is usually more adventurous

and wants to learn about another country and culture.

B Sts match the speech bubbles with the people in the


pictures. Check answers. Discuss whether the speech

bubbles confirm their ideas of the difference between a


tourist and a traveler.

2 Sts underline the adjectives in the speech bubbles. Check

3 A Make sure sts understand crowded in question 5. Sts

work in pairs to take the quiz. Have them write down their

B Sts look at the results in pairs and discuss whether or

4 Sts complete the chart, using the quiz to help. Remind

them that not all the forms are in the quiz. Check answers.

stressed and some are not. To demonstrate, say I like to

plan my trip carefully, exaggerating the stress. Elicit which

B Sts work in pairs to compare their ideas and say


whether they agree or disagree. Ask some pairs what they

agree about.
9 A Explain city break/a trip to the city, beach vacation/a
trip to the beach and go abroad if necessary. Sts complete

the questions with the correct forms of the adjectives. As

an option, have sts work in pairs for this. Check answers

and make sure sts understand all the questions.
