listen and understand a dialogue about a holiday; to produce a short text (blog) describing their

CHECKING HOMEWORK 7 MINUTES T-Ss/ Ss-T

Aims: to check accomplishment of given instructions

Skills: reading, speaking

Materials: student’s workbook

Procedure: Teacher asks children to read their homework. Students had to read a dialogue and
match the sentence halves. T asks Ss to read the dialogue again and then check their answers. T
writes the answers on the board.
Assessment: T corrects any possible mistakes

Warm-up activity

Ss are asked the following questions: How was Claire’s holiday? Where did she stay? What did
she visit? Did she go walking? Did she go swimming? and then complete a table with
information referring to Places to stay, Places to visit, Activities
Expected difficulties: some students might not identify all the activities

ACTIVITY 1 15 MINUTES T-Ss/ Ss-T

Introducing new language – Vocabulary – Holiday places and activities

Consolidation – Grammar – Past Simple, negative and interrogative forms

Aims: to use the necessary vocabulary when describing a holiday; to talk about their own
vacation.
Skills: speaking, listening, writing

PROCEDURE: T announces the topic of the lesson and writes the title on the board: Holiday
places and activities. Ss are asked to look at the pictures they see on page 62 and try to match
them to the words given. This exercise is also shown on the board, using the projector. T
explains any unknown words, if necessary. In groups, Ss are asked to put the words in exercise 1
in the correct category: Places to stay; Places to visit; Transport places; Activities. Ss write the
words on the board and in their notebooks. T correct any possible mistakes.

Listening:

Aim: to understand people talking about their own vacation;

In groups, Ss are asked to listen to two people talking about their last holidays and complete the
table for each person: Anna, Sam, Tom, Becky went to…stayed in…, went…-ing

Introducing new language – Vocabulary – Holiday things

Ss are introduced to a new exercise on www.wordwall.net and are asked to identify words
related to Holiday things. Ss read the words and play the game, which consists in putting the
words in the correct category: Things to take for a sightseeing holiday, Things to take for a
beach holiday, The journey, Places to stay, Things to do, Places to visit. T corrects any possible
mistakes.

ACTIVITY 2 10 MINUTES T-Ss/ Ss-T

Skills: reading, listening, speaking, writing

Aims: to read and understand a short text about a holiday in a special campsite; to listen and
understand a dialogue about a holiday; to produce a short text (blog) describing their own
vacation;

PROCEDURE: Ss are asked to read the title and try to explain what glamping holiday means.
Ss listen to Lisa’s blog post. T explains any unknown words and writes them on the board.
(Glossary: accommodation, wood stove, remote) Ss are asked to answer the questions from
exercise 2. Where did Lisa’s family go last year? Where did they stay? Etc.

Listening: Ss listen and are asked to complete the information about Paul’s summer camp
holiday. (ex. 3, page 71) Then, they have to match the questions 1-5 to the answers A-E. Ss write
the answers on the board and in their notebooks. T corrects any possible mistakes.
ACTIVITY 3 7 MINUTES T-Ss/ Ss-T/ Ss-Ss

Listening

Skills: listening, speaking, writing

Aims: to use songs in order to identify words related to holidays/ vacations

PROCEDURE: Ss are introduced to a song called Anywhere by Passenger

song and if they know anything about the artist. Ss are asked to listen to the song, read the lyrics
and identify any possible words related to seasons, places, holidays etc. (ocean, sea, mountains,
trees, train, fast car, California, planes etc.). T underlines the words directly on the board and
explains any unknown words, if necessary. Ss may listen to the song twice.

Time permitting activity:

Aim: to produce a short dialogue describing their own vacation

Speaking: Ss are asked to imagine they had an unusual holiday. In turns, they have to ask and
answer the questions from exercise 4, page 71.

 Homework - Ss have to write ex. 5, page 71 in which they are asked to write a blog post
