ॆ लक्षण

आयुर्वद
• हहताहहतं सुखं दु खं आयु तस्य हहताहहतं

मानं च तत च यत्र उक्तं अयुर्वद

• तदायुर्ेदयतीत्यायुर्ेदुः; कथहमहत चेत? उच्यते -स्वलक्षणतुः
सुखासुखतो हहताहहततुः प्रमाणाप्रमाणतश्च;यतश्चायुष्याण्यनायुष्याहण
च द्रव्यगुणकमाॆ हण र्े दयत्यतोऽप्यायुर्ेदुः| तत्रायुष्याण्यनायुष्याहण च
द्रव्यगुणकमाॆ हण केर्लेनोपदे क्ष्यन्ते तन्त्रेण||२३||ca su 30
• Ayurveda is that source of knowledge which teaches about
or deals with Ayu. How so? By its characteristics, it imparts
the knowledge of joy and suffering, benefit and harm, and
authentic/authoritative and unauthentic/unreliable
(sources of information). It is also that which informs us
about the span of life and substances with properties and
actions that result in the same. This will be dealt with in the
entire text at various appropriate contexts.
Sukha ayu
• तत्र [१] शारीरमानसाभ्ां रोगाभ्ामनहिद्रुतस्य – Not
effected with diseases of mind and body
• हर्शेषेण यौर्नर्तुः - Young age
• समथाॆ नुगतबलर्ीयॆयशुःपौरुषपराक्रमस्य
ज्ञानहर्ज्ञानेन्द्रियेन्द्रियाथॆबलसमुदये र्तॆमानस्य
• Endowed with Bala, Veerya, Yasha, Porusha,
Parakrama, Jnana, Vijnana, Indriya &
Indriyartha Bala
• परमन्द्रधॆरुहचरहर्हर्धोपिोगस्य –who can achieve
whatever they want
• समृधसर्ाॆ रम्भस्य यथेष्टहर्चाररणुः –roam as they
please
• सुखमायुरुच्यते; - are said to lead a happy life.
• असुखमतो हर्पयॆयेण;
Hita Ayu
• हहतैहषणुः पुनिूॆतानां – Companionate for all
living being
• परस्वादु परतस्य – who do not desire the wealth
of others
• सत्यर्ाहदनुः who are truthful,
• शमपरस्य [२] peace loving,
• परीक्ष्यकाररणोऽप्रमत्तस्य who are thoughtful
before taking action,
• हत्रर्गं परस्परे णानुपहतमुपसेर्मानस्य - who
experience the three important objectives of
life (righteousness, wealth and desire) without
one affecting the other,
• पूजाहॆ सम्पूजकस्य who respect superiors,
• ज्ञानहर्ज्ञानोपशमशीलस्य
• र्ृधोपसेहर्नुः - who serve the elders,
• सुहनयतरागरोषेष्याॆ मदमानर्ेगस्य - who have full
control over lust, anger, envy, arrogance and
pride,
• सततं हर्हर्धप्रदानपरस्य - who constantly
indulge in various types of charity
• तपोज्ञानप्रशमहनत्यस्याध्यात्महर्दस्तत्परस्य , who
constantly indulge in meditation, acquisition
of knowledge and quiet life, who have full
spiritual knowledge and are devoted to it
• लोकहममं चामुं चार्ेक्षमाणस्य स्मृहतमहतमतो- who
work both for the present as well as for the
next life, and are endowed with memory and
intelligence
• हहतमायुरुच्यते;
• अहहतमतो हर्पयॆयेण||२४||
Mana of Ayu
• प्रमाणमायुषस्त्वथेन्द्रियमनोबुन्द्रधचेष्टादीनां
हर्कृहतलक्षणैरुपलभ्तेऽहनहमत्तैुः, अयमस्मात
क्षणान्मुहूताॆ हिर्सात हत्रपञ्चसप्तदशद्वादशाहात पक्षान्मासात
षण्मासात संर्त्सराद्वा स्विार्मापत्स्यत इहत;
• Decrease of Ayu – signed by abnormal changes in
sensory perception mana, buddi, chesta
• These signals help in predicting the death of an
individual at a particular moment or time or day, after
three days, five days, a week or ten days and after a
fortnight, a month, six months or a year.
• These helps to predict death
• तत्र स्विार्ुः प्रर्ृत्तेरुपरमो मरणमहनत्यता हनरोध
इत्येकोऽथॆुः;
• इत्यायुषुः प्रमाणम;

• Return to the natural state (svabhava),


cessation of all activities(pravritti uparama),
death(marana), temporary state(anityata),
restriction in the continuation of life (nirodha)-
all these are synonymous with death.
Apramana of Ayu
• अतो हर्परीतमप्रमाणमररष्टाहधकारे ; - Opposite to
Pramana of Ayu as explained In the Indriya
sthana
• दे हप्रकृहतलक्षणमहधकृत्य चोपहदष्टमायुषुः
प्रमाणमायुर्ेदे [१] ||२५||

• In Ayurveda, life span is determined by


characteristics of natural constitution.

• िार्स्विार्हनत्यत्वाच्च| - things dealt are eternal
