1. Warm-up
Aim: introducing Ss in the atmosphere of the English class
Time: 5 minutes
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: T greets the Ss and the duty student tells the absents. T checks the
homework and corrects the mistakes, if necessary.
2. Presentation
Aim: to remember the information given on Past Tense.
Time: 10 minutes
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Procedure: T asks Ss questions in order to revise the Past Tense Simple (questions
about types of verbs, form, use, spelling rules, time expressions). T monitors the Ss
and helps them, where necessary.
3. Listening
Aims:
-to improve Ss' listening skills
-to practice the Past Tense Simple
Time: 15 minutes
Interaction: T-Ss, pair work
Procedure: T announces the Ss that they are going to listen to a song named ”Song of
the Simple Past”. T tells them that while listening to the song, they have to write
down 10 verbs in the Past Simple that they hear. After listening, the T hands out the
Ss some worksheets with the lyrics of the song and asks them to check their answers.
Then the T asks Ss to work in pairs and to underline all the verbs in the Past Simple.
Ss go to the blackboard by turns and write the verbs in the Past Simple and their
infinitive form.
4. Practice
Aim: to use the Past Tense Simple in exercises.
Time: 10 minutes
Interaction: T-Ss, individual work
Procedure: T hands out to the Ss some worksheets with exercises (put the verbs in the
Past Tense Simple, match the questions to their answers, correct the mistakes, order
the sentences to make up the story) and asks them to work individually. T checks the
answers and corrects them
6. Homework assignment
Aim: to provide further practice of the Past Tense Simple
Time: 2 minutes
Procedure: T tells the Ss that they have to write a short paragraph about what they did
last weekend.
