REMOVAL
CAUTION:
Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign
material. When disconnected all components must be sealed.
NOTE:
◾ This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle
specification, but the essential information is always correct.
◾ This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra
clarity.
1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

Refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

Refer to: Specifications (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Specifications).
3. Remove the intake manifold.

Refer to: Intake Manifold (303-01A Engine - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol, Removal and
Installation).
4. Remove the turbocharger.

Refer to: Turbocharger (303-04D Fuel Charging and Controls - Turbocharger - INGENIUM I4
2.0L Petrol, Removal and Installation).
5. Remove the camshaft carrier.

Refer to: Valve Cover (303-01A Engine - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol, Removal and Installation).
6. Remove the right powertrain mount.

Refer to: Right Engine Mount (303-01A Engine - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol, Removal and
Installation).
7. Remove the oil filter housing.

Refer to: Oil Filter Housing (303-01A Engine - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol, Removal and
Installation).

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Remove and discard the cylinder head temperature sensor.

CAUTION:
Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
◾ Remove the 2 bolts.
◾ Disconnect the left side coolant pipe.
◾ Remove the 2 bolts.
◾ Disconnect the right side coolant pipe.
◾ Remove the 5 bolts in the indicated sequence.
◾ Remove the right powertrain mount bracket.

CAUTION:
Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
◾ Remove the bolt.
◾ Disconnect the coolant pipe.

Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

Remove the NVH material.

CAUTION:
◾ Make sure that the components are clean, dry and free from corrosion and
foreign material.
◾ Check all timing components for wear and install new components if required.
◾ Mark each camshaft roller finger follower and lash adjuster. Make sure each component
is returned to its original position.
◾ Remove the 8 camshaft roller finger followers.
◾ Remove the 8 hydraulic lash adjusters.

Remove the 3 bolts from the rear of the cylinder head.

Use the special tool to remove the cylinder head bolts.

NOTE:
Remove the bolts in the indicated sequence.
◾ Remove the 11 cylinder head retaining bolts.
◾ Remove the special tool.

Remove the bolt and the timing chain guide.

CAUTION:
◾ Take extra care not to damage the surrounding components.
◾ Take extra care not to damage the edges of the component.
With the assistance of another technician, remove the cylinder head.

Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.

Remove the dowels.

CAUTION:
Only use a plastic scraper to clean off the old gasket.
Clean and inspect the cylinder head and cylinder block mating surfaces.
INSTALLATION
1. Check cylinder head face for distortion, across the center and from corner to corner.
Refer to: Cylinder Head Distortion (303-00 Engine System - General Information, General
Procedures).
2.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the dowels and dowel holes are clean and free from debris and
foreign material.
Install the 2 dowels.
3.
NOTE:
The cylinder head gasket must be installed over the cylinder head to cylinder block
dowels.
Install a new cylinder head gasket.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the component is correctly located on the locating dowels.
With the aid of another technician, install the cylinder head.
5.
Use the special tool to install the cylinder head bolts.

6.
◾ Install and tighten 10 new cylinder head bolts in the indicated sequence.
Stage 1: 30Nm
Stage 2: 62Nm

◾ Loosen then tighten each bolt in the illustrated sequence.
Loosen: 180°
Tighten: 62Nm

◾ Tighten the 10 bolts in the indicated sequence.

: 125°
◾ Remove the special tool.

◾ Install and tighten the bolt.

: 26Nm

◾ Install the 3 bolts to the rear of the cylinder head.

: 12Nm
11. Final torque range for M13 cylinder head bolts is 70-110 Nm.

◾ Check all timing components for wear and install new components if required.
NOTE:
Note the orientation of the alignment marks.
◾ Install the 8 hydraulic lash adjusters.
◾ Install the 8 camshaft roller finger followers.

Install the NVH material.

◾ Connect the coolant pipe.

: 12Nm

◾ Install the right powertrain mount bracket.
◾ Install and tighten the 5 bolts in the indicated sequence.
Stage 1: 50Nm
Stage 2: 125°
◾ Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

: 10Nm
◾ Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

: 10Nm

◾ Install and tighten a new cylinder head temperature sensor.

: 10.5Nm
19.
◾ Connect the electrical connector.
20. Install the oil filter housing.

21. Install the right powertrain mount.

22. Install the camshaft carrier.

23. Install the turbocharger.

24. Install the intake manifold.

25. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

CYLINDER HEAD (G2110225)

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

STEP PART NAME QUANTITY

Installation Step 6 Cylinder head bolts 10

1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

2. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

3. Remove the intake manifold.

4. Remove the turbocharger.

5. Remove the camshaft carrier.

6. Remove the right powertrain mount.

7. Remove the oil filter housing.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Remove and discard the cylinder head temperature sensor.

Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

◾ Remove the 2 bolts.

◾ Disconnect the left side coolant pipe.

◾ Remove the 2 bolts.

◾ Disconnect the right side coolant pipe.

◾ Remove the 5 bolts in the indicated sequence.

◾ Remove the right powertrain mount bracket.

Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

◾ Remove the bolt.

◾ Disconnect the coolant pipe.

Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

Remove the NVH material.

◾ Remove the 8 camshaft roller finger followers.

◾ Remove the 8 hydraulic lash adjusters.

Remove the 3 bolts from the rear of the cylinder head.

Use the special tool to remove the cylinder head bolts.

Remove the bolts in the indicated sequence.

◾ Remove the 11 cylinder head retaining bolts.

◾ Remove the special tool.

Remove the bolt and the timing chain guide.

◾ Take extra care not to damage the surrounding components.

◾ Take extra care not to damage the edges of the component.

With the assistance of another technician, remove the cylinder head.

Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.

Remove the dowels.

Only use a plastic scraper to clean off the old gasket.

Install the 2 dowels.

Install a new cylinder head gasket.

With the aid of another technician, install the cylinder head.

Use the special tool to install the cylinder head bolts.

◾ Loosen then tighten each bolt in the illustrated sequence.

◾ Tighten the 10 bolts in the indicated sequence.

◾ Remove the special tool.

◾ Install and tighten the bolt.

◾ Install the 3 bolts to the rear of the cylinder head.

Note the orientation of the alignment marks.

◾ Install the 8 hydraulic lash adjusters.

◾ Install the 8 camshaft roller finger followers.

◾ Install the timing chain guide.

◾ Install and tighten the bolt.

Install the NVH material.

Install the NVH material.

◾ Install the right powertrain mount bracket.

◾ Connect the coolant pipe.

◾ Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
