A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10
LESSON: Introducing Research
Day: 2
Date: April 2-3, 2024
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
 Explain the different parts of research in Chapter 2
 Able to differentiate the primary ans secondary sources; and
 Show appreciation of the value of creating a research.
A. Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature and other text types serves as sources
of wisdom in expressing and resolving conflicts among individuals, groups and nature; also how to use
evaluate reading, listening and viewing strategies, special speeches for occasion, pronouns and
structures of modifications.
B. Performance Standards:
The learner skillfully delivers a speech for special occasion through utilizing effective verbal and non-
verbal strategies and ICT resources.
C. Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC):

IV. PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Introduction What I need to know?
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
 Explain the different parts of research in Chapter 2;
 Able to differentiate the primary ans secondary sources; and
 Show appreciation of the value of creating a research.

What’s New?

Observe the pictures above and ask the students the following
questions:
When you are looking for an information how do look for that
information? What are the tools you are using? Do you copy
and paste the information?
B. Development What I know?
Let’s have a quick review about our discussion yesterday!
Can you give one of the components of the chapter 1 and
explain what is it all about?
“Background of the
study, where we put the
overview and the
purpose of our study”
“Theoretical Framework,
where we put the theory
or theories that is
connected and
supporting our study”

“Conceptual Framework
is all about widening the
explanation of theories”

“Statement of the
problem”

“Scope and Delimitation”

“Significance of the
Study”

“Definition of Terms”
What is in?
In the pictures above how can you say that the sources we
are using is suitable and reliable for us, as a student?
What is it?
Chapter 2. Review of Related Literature/ Studies

 This section examines existing scholarly works, research

articles, books, and other relevant sources that are
directly related to the research topic.

 The purpose of the review is to provide a comprehensive

understanding of the current state of knowledge and
research in the field. It involves critically analyzing and
synthesizing the findings, methodologies, theories, and
concepts from various sources.

A. Foreign Literature

 The foreign literature section of the review of related

literature/studies focuses on works and studies carried out
by researchers and scholars from different countries or
regions.

 It includes reviewing and summarizing significant study

articles, books, dissertations, or reports that provide
global insights and perspectives.

 The foreign literature section allows the researcher to

examine how the research topic has been explored,
understood, and addressed in different cultural, social, or
academic contexts. It provides opportunities to identify
similarities, differences, gaps, or contradictions between
the international literature and the study's local context.

B. Local Literature

 The local literature component of the review of relevant

literature/studies focuses on publications and studies
conducted by researchers and scholars from the same
country or region as the research being conducted.

 The local literature section allows the researcher to

examine how the research topic has been approached,
studied, and understood within the specific cultural, social,
or institutional context of the study.

Other Research Terms and Expressions

A. Types of Information Resources

1. Primary Sources are immediate, first-hand accounts of a

topic, from people who had a direct connection with it.

Primary sources can include the following :

 Texts of laws and other original documents.

 Newspaper reports, by reporters who witnessed an event

or who quote people who did.

 Speeches, diaries, letters and interviews - what the

people involved said or wrote.

 Original research.

 Datasets, survey data, such as census or economic

statistics.

 Photographs, video, or audio that capture an event.

2. Secondary Sources- are one step removed from primary

sources, though they often quote or otherwise use primary
sources. They can cover the same topic, but add a layer of
interpretation and analysis.

Secondary sources can include the following :

 Most books about a topic.

 Analysis or interpretation of data.

 Scholarly or other articles about a topic, especially by
people not directly involved.

 Documentaries (though they often include photos or video

portions that can be considered primary sources)

 Bibliography is a list of all of the sources you have used

(whether referenced or not) in the process of researching
your work.

In general, a bibliography should include:

 the authors' names

 the titles of the works

 the names and locations of the companies that published

your copies of the sources

 the dates your copies were published

 the page numbers of your sources (if they are part of multi
source volumes)

 Citation is a reference to the source of information used in

your research. Any time you directly quote, paraphrase or
summarize the essential elements of someone else idea
in your work.

An “in-text citation” is a brief notation within the text of

your paper or presentation which refers the reader to a
fuller notation, or end-of-paper citation, which provides all
necessary details about that source of information.

APA Citation- author-date method of in-text citation. This

means that the author's last name and the year of publication
for the source should appear in the text.

Example: (Jones, 1998)

If you are referring to an idea from another work

but NOT directly quoting the material, or making reference to
an entire book, article or other work, you only have to make
reference to the author and year of publication and not the
page number in your in-text reference.

On the other hand, if you are directly quoting or borrowing

from another work, you should include the page number at the
end of the parenthetical citation. Use the abbreviation “p.” (for
one page) or “pp.” (for multiple pages) before listing the page
number(s). Use an en dash for page ranges.

For example:

(Jones, 1998, p. 199) or (Jones, 1998, pp. 199–201).

If you are directly quoting from a work, you will need to include
the author, year of publication, and page number for the
reference (preceded by "p." for a single page and “pp.” for a
span of multiple pages, with the page numbers separated by
an en dash).

For example:

According to Jones (1998), "students often had difficulty using

APA style, especially when it was their first time" (p. 199).

She stated, "Students often had difficulty using APA style"

(Jones, 1998, p. 199), but she did not offer an explanation as
to why.

If you're paraphrasing an idea from another source, you

simply need to include the author and year of publication in
your in-text reference and may leave out the page numbers.
However, APA rules recommend giving a page range for a
summary or paraphrase when it will aid the reader in finding
the content in a longer work.

Examples:

According to Jones (1998), APA style is a difficult citation

format for first-time learners.

APA style is a difficult citation format for first-time learners

(Jones, 1998, p. 199).

C. Engagement What’s more?
