2. ODeratinq orincide

A. Inflation/deflation of main compartment of buoyancy chamber

(1). Inflation
Mechanical inflation (figure 6)

Inflation of the main compartment of the chamber should preferably be performed using
the inflator assembly.

Pulling the firing cord (1) causes the rotation of the firing lever (2) the cam of which
pushes the firing pin (3) out, which causes the CO;! cylinder (4) cap to be punctured and
the main compartment to inflate. The sheath closed by a VELCRO fastener opens
automatically under the buoyancy chamber pressure. The buoyancy chamber is then
released and completes inflation.

Oral inflation (figure 7)

It is possible to further inflate the compartment, using the oral mouthpiece:

- Clear the oral mouthpiece (4) from its holding clamp (2).
- Remove the protective cap (3) and blow. The mouthpiece is fitted with a non-return
valve which prevents air from flowing out when the user takes his breath,
- Replace the protective cap.
- Replace the mouthpiece into its holding clamp.

(2). Deflation
The top part of the protective cap is designed for deflating the chamber. When inserted
into the oral mouthpiece, it pushes the non-return valve and enables the air to easily flow
out.

B. lnflationldeflationof backup compartment of buoyancy chamber

(1). Inflation
The backup compartment can be inflated using the oral mouthpiece, exclusively.

(2). Deflation
Deflation of the backup compartment is performed in the same way as for the main
compartment, using the oral mouthpiece.

mouthpiece or inflate the backup compartment, using the oral mouthpiece.

C. Operating the rescue light system (figure 8)

NOTE: The rescue light system is part of the removable buoyancy sub-assembly.

The rescue light system operation is irreversible and automatic. It operates for eight hours
minimum.

- When the chamber is inflated, the firing cord (1) tensions as it extracts the firing handle (7),
and releases the two caps (2), from the battery (3),
- To turn on, immerse the battery in water, taking care not to pull the wire (4); the lamp (5)
illuminates,
- After turn-on, make sure that the battery remains immersed.

4. Visual insDection of life iacket and check of accessories

A. General
NOTE: Concerning the test equipment required, refer to section "SPECIAL TOOLS,
FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT MATERIALS".

Inspect the textile parts (structure, buoyancy sheath, buoyancy chamber, belt, carrier bag). A
sour smell, some over brightness, or hardening indicate that the textile is degraded by aging.
Check for wear, stains, and deformation.

B. Visual inspection of life jacket

Check:
- The external aspect of the life jacket (fabric, strap integrity).
- The carrier bag (fabric and halyard fastening integrity).
- The survival components (Use-by date, condition)

C. Visual inspection of buoyancy system

Check:
- The external aspect of the sheath (fabric and textile item, zipper, VELCRO fastener
integrity).
- For presence of the CO2cylinder (by feeling the sheath).
- For presence of the inflator cord, on right hand side.
- That the buoyancy sheath is properly closed.
- That the sheath is mounted and secured to the structure.

D. Check for marking legibility.

E. Check that the belt and crotch strap quick-release fasteners are secured and operating.

F. Check for corrosion and correct free operation of mechanical parts (inflator lever, cylinder
insert on inflator).

G. Inspect the inflation tubes for absence of cracks and any other types of damage. Check that
the non-return oral mouthpiece moves freely.
- Partly inflate the chamber and immerse the inflation tube in water to check for leaks at the
oral mouthpiece.
- Dry the mouthpiece, taking care not to let water penetrate the chamber.
- If faulty, replace the non-return oral mouthpiece.

256-223 REV 10
PAGE 502
AERAZUR

H. Inspect the CO2cylinder

(1). Check that the welded cap is in good condition (no rubbing signs). If the cap is highly
bulging or marked, discard the cylinder and replace with a new cylinder. Since the
cylinders are sealed, it is not necessary to check their weight.

(2). When in doubt, however, weigh the cylinder and compare with the minimum allowable
weight, engraved on the cylinder body.

I. Inspect the rescue light system

(1). Check for cracks, signs of shock or bulging on the battery casing. Check the condition of
the connecting electric wire and lamp.
Any deformation of the battery casing indicates that the battery is damaged by water or
dampness, and therefore out of order. Measure the battery casing thickness: 12.06 mm
maximum.

(2). Checking the lamp.

Use the test equipment.
Bring the 2 probes of the instrument into contact with the 2 strands of the electric wire:
the lamp should illuminate.

In both cases (non-operating lamp and/or casing over-thickness), discard the rescue light
system and replace with a new rescue light system.

J. Checking the non-return valve (figure 6).

After removing the inflator, inject a compressed air jet through the base (10).
The valve core (9) should open and the chamber inflate.
Stop inflating when the chamber starts getting into shape.
The valve core should close and ensure tightness (no leaking). Otherwise, unscrew the valve
core and replace with a new valve core.

At end of check:

Re-install the inflator with new top and bottom gaskets and lock the inflator lever, using linen
thread (11).
Check the base cap tightening (0.2 to 0.3 daN.m).
