Purpose:
To provide instructions for separating the drain from the combustor and exhaust collector.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
It has been noted that in some installations, the drain from the turbine exhaust collector has been
improperly connected into a sump or a common drain system. This practice is definitely not recom-
mended, since hot exhaust gases could ignite any hydrocarbons which may be present from other
sources.

This possibility is particularly prevalent on liquid fueled machines, but can also occur on gas fueled
packages, where liquids can back up through a common drain system.

ACTION REQUIRED:
The solution consists of using two identical valves, one of which is inverted (See Figure 1). Under
conditions of no pressure, liquids are free to drain from the combustor and the exhaust collector.
When combustor pressure builds up, both valves close.

The kits listed in this Bulletin may be purchased from the local SOLAR parts depot.

WHEN PERFORMING REWORK ON THE DRAIN VALVE DO NOT RE-

MOVE THE FITTING ON THE OUTLET SIDE OF THE VALVE. THE FIT-
TING CONTAINS A GROUND SEAT FOR THE FLAPPER BALL. THE
VALVE WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY IF THE CORRECT FITTING
IS NOT INSTALLED.
