GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 (or simply, Guardians of the Galaxy volume 3 note 1; originally titled
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics
superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt
Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the third and final installment of the "Guardians of the Galaxy
Trilogy", as well as being the 32nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is written
and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast consisting of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave
Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki , Sean
Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova. In the film, the Guardians
embark on a mission to protect Rocket (Cooper) from the High Evolutionary (Iwuji).
James Gunn said in November 2014 that he had initial ideas for a third film in the series and announced
his return to write and direct in April 2017. Disney fired him from the film in July 2018 following a
resurgence of controversial Twitter posts, but the studio reversed course in October and reinstated Gunn
as director. Gunn's return was publicly revealed in March 2019, and production resumed after Gunn
completed work on his film The Suicide Squad (2021) and its spin-off series Peacemaker (2022 ).
Filming began in November 2021 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and lasted until early May 2022.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 had its world premiere at Disneyland Paris on April 22, 2023, and
was released in the United States on May 5, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are adjusting to life on Knowhere when parts of Rocket's past resurface.
To protect him, Peter Quill must lead the Guardians, along with their newest member, Cosmo the
Space Dog, on a dangerous mission that could lead to the dissolution of the current team. 3

At their new headquarters in Knowhere, note 2 the Guardians of the Galaxy are attacked by Adam
Warlock, a warrior Sovereign created by their high priestess Ayesha. Note 3 After Adam overpowers them
and severely wounds Rocket, Nebula stabs him and forces him to flee. The Guardians are unable to tend
to Rocket's wounds due to a kill switch, made by the Orgocorp company, embedded in him. They
travel to Orgocorp headquarters to find the cancellation code.
As Rocket lies unconscious, he remembers his past. When he was a baby raccoon, he was experimented
with by the High Evolutionary, a scientist who sought to improve and anthropomorphize animal life
forms to create a Counter-Earth. Rocket befriended the High Evolutionr's other test subjects: otter Lylla,
walrus Teefs and rabbit Floor. The High Evolutionary was impressed by Rocket's rapidly growing
intelligence, but was enraged once he surpassed his own. The High Evolutionary perfected his
experiments with Rocket's advice, but ordered Rocket's brain to be extracted and his friends executed.
Rocket freed Lylla, only to have the High Evolutionary kill her. Enraged, Rocket maimed the High
Evolutionary and shot his guards, but Teefs and Floor died in the chaos. Alone, Rocket stole a
spaceship and fled.
In the present, an alternate version of Gamora, note 4 who has joined the Ravagers, helps the Guardians
infiltrate Orgocorp. They recover the Rocket file but discover that the code has been deleted. The group
speculates that Theel, one of the High Evolutionary's advisors, has it, so they set off for the Counter-
Earth. They are followed by Ayesha and Adam, who are ordered by their creator, the High
Evolutionary, to retrieve Rocket for his brain.
Upon arrival, the residents help the team track Theel to the High Evolutionr's ship. Drax and Mantis
stay with Gamora and Rocket as Peter Quill, Groot, and Nebula travel to the High Evolutionary's ship
. The guards force Nebula to wait outside while Quill and Groot board. Drax and Mantis pursue Quill's
group.
High Evolutionary begins its destruction and planned recreation of Counter-Earth, which kills all life on
the planet, including Ayesha. When their ship enters orbit, Quill and Groot jump and kill Theel,
retrieving the code from him. Gamora arrives with her ship to rescue them, while Nebula, Mantis and
Drax board the High Evolutionary's ship to escape the planet. While Quill's group tries to access the
code, Rocket has a near-death experience, where he reunites with Lylla, Teefs, and Floor. Lylla tells
him that his time has not yet come, as Quill uses the code to disable the kill switch and save Rocket's
life.
Nebula, Mantis, and Drax encounter hundreds of humanoid children imprisoned on the High
Evolutionary's ship before being captured. Quill's group sets out to rescue the three, placed in a
chamber with monstrous Abiliskos. Mantis befriends the Abiliskos, allowing the group to escape and
reunite with Quill's group, and together they defeat the High Evolutionary's army. Kraglin and
Cosmo arrive with Knowhere , and Cosmo creates a telekinetic tunnel that connects Knowhere to
the High Evolutionary's ship to free the captured children. Rocket discovers animals imprisoned on the
ship before being attacked by the High Evolutionary, but the rest of the Guardians help subdue him,
leaving him to perish on their ship. The Guardians rescue the animals and bring them aboard Knowhere.
Quill almost dies trying to cross, but is saved by Adam, who changed his mind after being saved by
Groot.
Quill subsequently leaves the Guardians and awards the captaincy to Rocket before leaving for Earth to
reunite with his grandfather Jason. Mantis embarks on a journey of self-discovery with the Abiliskos,
Gamora reunites with the Ravagers and Nebula and Drax remain in Knowhere to raise the rescued
children.
In a mid-credits scene, the new Guardians, consisting of Rocket, Groot, Cosmo, Kraglin, Adam,
Phyla (one of the rescued children) and Adam's pet Blurp, take on a new mission.
