Supporting details:

1. Making plastic bags is to extract the raw polyethylene that can be derived from either
cracked natural gas or refined oil, which releases greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide.:
Plastic Bag Manufacturing Starts with Raw Material Extraction
The first step of making plastic bags is to extract the raw material. This material —
polyethylene —can be derived from either cracked natural gas or refined oil. Because these
hydrocarbons are located below ground, they must be reached and extracted through the use of
drilling wells. https://www.aaapolymer.com/how-are-plastic-bags-made/
2. Electricity and energy generation are related to climate change. Electricity generation
produces plastic bags, it emits carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.: Generating power
Generating electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels causes a large chunk of global
emissions. Most electricity is still generated by burning coal, oil, or gas, which produces carbon
dioxide and nitrous oxide – powerful greenhouse gases that blanket the Earth and trap the sun’s
heat. Globally, only about a quarter of electricity comes from wind, solar, and other renewable
sources which, as opposed to fossil fuels, emit little to no greenhouse gases or pollutants into the
air. https://thailand.un.org/en/174652-causes-and-effects-climate-change
3. There are many ways to get rid of plastic bags, and one of them is to landfill. When
plastic is sent to landfills, it will enter a decomposition process that produces methane gases.:
Organic waste creates methane (CH4) when decomposing in landfill.
Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 30x more damaging to the environment than CO2,
and contributes to global warming.
Methane is created through anaerobic decomposition, which happens when organic waste
decomposes with a lack of oxygen. It happens in landfill because waste is trapped in plastic bags
and these bags are densily stored together.
What can you do about this?
Try to reduce the amount of waste you send to landfill, and more specifically the organic
waste. Instead, start a composting pile!
A compost pile, because it is exposed to oxygen, produces CO2 (carbon dioxide) instead
of methane which is less damaging for the environment.
Also, after nine to twelve months, you get a free fertiliser for your garden and plant pots
to keep them looking beautiful.
Think about all the organic waste from your kitchen, and all the eco products that you
bought (bamboo toothbrush, compostable tea bags, etc). Time to compost! Easy!
