Script: (Car Situation - someone gets run over)

Scene 1 (Paola, Sebastian, Chapman, José)

Pamela: On May 17th, the famous singer Paola Chu was performing her biggest
concert so far with a capacity of over 60 000. The concert was being held in one
of the most famous stadiums in England, Anfield Road.
Since the concert would start at 9 pm, Paola was been taken there by her driver
Sebastian a couple of hours beforehand.

(Inside the car)

Paola: Excuse me? How much longer will it take for us to get there?
Sebastian: We’ll arrive shortly, ma’am.
Paola: Alright, very well.

Pamela: Sebastian wasn’t what we’d call a responsible driver, and so, he was
texting while driving.

Paola: *frowns disapprovingly*

Pamela: They were passing by a traffic light, but since Sebastian wasn’t looking at
the road, he didn’t notice that it was red and that a pedestrian was crossing.

José: *screams*

Paola: Watch out!

*CRASH*

Pamela: Sebastian tries to brake the car but it was already too late. José, the
pedestrian, gets hit by the car and falls to the ground.

Chapman: Oh my, that car just ran over a guy! Isn’t that Paola Chu? She’s
performing tonight at Anfield!

Pamela: While Juan Pablo is calling an ambulance, Sebastian gets out of the car.

Sebastian: OH GOD, I RAN HIM OVER. WHAT HAVE I DONE!

Scene 2 (Valeria, Sebastian, Chapman, Paola)

Pamela: There was a policewoman nearby watching the whole scene.

Valeria: Sir, calm down, what has happened here?

Sebastian: *stuttering* I- I don’t know. I didn’t see the guy crossing the street…

Valeria: Well that is an understatement!

Pamela: Juan Pablo is hearing the conversation take place, thus he approaches
Valeria, the policewoman.

Valeria: Can you be a bit more specific?

Juan Pablo: I know what happened! The traffic light was red, it hadn’t turned
green just yet when that driver passed by and hit the guy. I’m guessing he was
using his mobile.

Pamela: After hearing this, the policewoman makes a decision.

Valeria: Sir *referring to Sebastian*, you’ll have to come with me to the police
station. And Mr….? *referring to *Juan Pablo*.

Chapman: Chapman.

Valeria: Well Mr. Chapman, I’ll have to take you in as a witness, you’ll have to
come along.

Chapman: But what about the guy? *points towards José’s direction*

Valeria: I heard you called an ambulance, it will get here soon enough.

Sebastian: Wait! I’m driving Paola Chu to Anfield Road. She's helding a concert in
a couple of hours.

*Paola looks up*

Paola: Don’t you worry, I’ll call another driver.

Pamela: Valeria tells the driver and the witness to follow her to the police car and
to get in it. Valeria starts driving when she receives a call…

Scene 3 (Valeria)

Valeria: *talking on the phone* Yes, I understand. I’m taking him to the police
station. Okay, bye.

Pamela: Sebastian and Chapman look at each other, both with a confused look
on their face.

Valeria: Perfect, Mr. Hopman, you’ve seemed to win the lottery. The man you ran
over was no other than José Castillo, he’s a footballer. He plays for Liverpool. The
accident is all over the news. It will surely affect your social life once your
neighbors find out.
Scene 4 (Valeria, Sebastian)
*At an interrogation room*

Pamela: The interrogation room is dimly lit, the air thick with tension. Sebastian
had slept in the police station. Valeria leans across the table, her gaze
unwavering. The driver, Sebastian, sits on the other side, palms sweaty, heart
racing. The room smells of stale coffee and fear.

Valeria: (leaning in) Sebastian, let's cut to the chase. You were behind the wheel
when that man was hit. Witnesses saw it. We have the evidence.

Sebastian: (voice trembling) I didn't see him! It was dark.. He came out of
nowhere!

Valeria: Nowhere? Or did you just not care to look? The traffic light was red. You
left him bleeding on the road.

Sebastian: I swear, I didn't mean to! It was an accident.

Pamela: Valeria laughed incredulously. She grabbed a file and peeked in.

Valeria: An accident you say. You think that excuses you? He could’ve died, you're
lucky he didn’t. He’s a very well known football player.

Sebastian: I didn't know. I didn't— I panicked. I was scared.

Valeria: Scared? Or guilty?

Sebastian: (voice breaking) I didn't want this. I never wanted this. It was an
accident. I’m a decent man.

Valeria: Well, Mr. Hopman, accidents have consequences . We'll find out what
really happened.

Pamela: As the room closes in, Sebastian wonders how many bricks it would take
to measure the weight of guilt. But there are no easy conversions for remorse.
Only questions, accusations, and the haunting image of a man lying broken on
the asphalt.

Scene 5 (Chapman, Valeria)

Pamela: Later that day, Mr. Chapman is called to tell his part of the story as a
witness. The room is a stark space, its walls echoing with the weight of remorse.
Valeria sits across from the witness, Juan Pablo, his eyes darting between the
two-way mirror and the detective's stern face. The room smells of stale coffee
and anxiety.

Valeria: (leaning forward) Mr. Chapman, let's start from the beginning. You were
there when it happened. Tell me what you saw.

Chapman: I was walking home from work. It had rained earlier that day, and the
streets were slippery. I heard a screech, and then I saw it. The car hit the man. He
fell to the pavement as if he were a bowling pin.

Pamela: At that, Valeria chuckled, how could Juan Pablo describe the scene as
such a thing as a bowling pin falling over?

Valeria: Did you see the victim's face?

Chapman: No, he was facedown on the pavement. Blood everywhere. I called 911.

Valeria: We need more. Can you remember anything else?"

Chapman: I wish I could. But it was chaos. People were screaming.

Pamela: As Valeria stood up, the interrogation was terminated. Juan Pablo was
left wondering what would happen to the driver, he surely seemed like a nice man.
But still, he caused an accident that moved British communities.
Scene 6 (Valeria, Paola)
Paola: attorney 1
Valeria: jury

*Courtroom, trial*

Pamela: The courtroom buzzes with anticipation. The air is thick with tension, and
the fluorescent lights cast unforgiving shadows on the faces of those present. The
traffic accident trial involving Liverpool’s young star, José Castillo, is about to
begin. The jury files in, eyes fixed on the defendant, Mr. Hopman.

Valeria: Ladies and gentlemen, we are here today to seek justice for the accident
that almost cost Mr. Castillo’s life. On the night of May 17th, he was struck down by
a speeding car, a car driven by none other than the accused, Sebastian Hopman.

Paola: Your Honor, members of the jury, my client was not trying to kill anyone. We
will prove that this was an accident, not a premeditated crime.

Scene 7 (José, Valeria, Paola)

José: I was on my way to Liverpool facilities, near Anfield Road. I was crossing the
street when this *points towards Sebastian’s direction* dumb and careless man
hit me with his car.

Valeria: It is known to me that the traffic light was red, meaning you shouldn’t
have crossed, Mr. Hopman. What have you to say about this?

Pamela: Sebastian’s attorney, Paola, stands up confidently.

Paola: Your Honor, it’s also worth mentioning that Mr. Castillo was looking at his
mobile when crossing the street, meaning he wasn’t really paying attention to
what was happening around him.

Valeria: Since we have new information, we are obliged to take a short recess to
make a veredit.
Scene 8 (Valeria)

Pamela: The jury returns to the room with an indecipherable look on her face. Has
she reached a verdict?

Valeria: We have reached a verdict. We find the defendant, Sebastian Hopman…

Pamela: The room holds its breath.

Valeria: …not guilty.
