2.1 Certification
The 3KC6 automatic transfer switching equipment (ATSE) is based on the 3KC3 (RTSE)
remotely operated transfer switching equipment. In contrast to 3KC3 transfer switching
equipment, 3KC6 transfer switching equipment has an additional permanently integrated
control unit with operating elements, indicator elements and an internal prewired power
supply and source monitoring.

2. Using a screwdriver, pull all the yellow lugs in the directions illustrated by the arrows.
The lugs latch into the upper position.
3. Lift the transfer switching equipment off the DIN rail.
Note
3KC3 transfer switching equipment is suitable for any type of network up to a maximum 4-
wire network when the power supply is connected externally. It is therefore also suitable for a
single-phase network with 1 phase and a neutral conductor.
It is possible to use the transfer switching equipment for switching between any two networks
in accordance with the standard IEC 60947-6-1.
It is also possible to use 3KC3 transfer switching equipment as a load transfer switch for
switching between two loads in accordance with the standard IEC 60947-3.
NOTICE
Damage to the device
The product is designed for a rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp of 6 kV for the main
circuit. The control circuit of the 3KC3 transfer switching equipment is designed for 4 kV
and the control circuit of the 3KC6 transfer switching equipment is designed for 2.5 kV.
The dual power supply (DPS) accessory is designed for a rated impulse withstand voltage
Uimp of 4 kV, and the autotransformer accessory is designed for 2.5 kV.
If the auxiliary conductor terminal accessory is used with the transfer switching equipment
installed on a grounded base plate, the rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp of the transfer
switching equipment is reduced to 2.5 kV!
When using the product in an application in which overvoltages of > 4 kV or > 2.5 kV can
occur, suitable measures must additionally be taken to limit these overvoltages to no more
than 4 kV or 2.5 kV, respectively.
Note
The transfer switching equipment must be connected with phase equality.
The following applies to the circuit diagrams below: The following terminal with accessories
can be used to connect a line to both power supply inputs:
● 1 x 8WH2003-0AG00
● 1 x 8WH9003-1GA00
● 2 x 8WH9150-0CA00
Figure 6-1 Three-phase 4-wire network with neutral conductor for the 3KC3 transfer switching
equipment
1) If auxiliary conductor terminal 3KC9622-2 is used with the transfer switching equipment installed
on a grounded base plate, Uimp is reduced to 2.5 kV.

Note
The F1 fuses must be installed as closely as possible to the tap.
The dual power supply accessory 3KC9625-1 is required for the power supply of the transfer
switching equipment. You can find a detailed description in the section titled Mounting and
connecting the dual power supply (DPS) (Page 49).
1) If auxiliary conductor tap 3KC9622-2 is used with the transfer switching equipment installed on a
grounded base plate, Uimp is reduced to 2.5 kV.
Figure 6-3 Three-phase 4-wire network with neutral conductor for the 3KC3 transfer switching
equipment
F1 1 x 3NW6003-1 10 A, gG
1 x 3NW7013
Note
The F1 fuses must be installed as closely as possible to the tap.
It is also possible to connect the sources without dual power supply (DPS) for the power
supply of the transfer switching equipment. However, if one of the sources is not available,
switching is only ever possible in one direction, namely in the direction of the available
source.
● If only source I is available, the transfer switching equipment can only be switched in the
direction of position I (II -> 0 and 0 -> I).
● If only source II is available, the transfer switching equipment can only be switched in the
direction of position II (I -> 0 and 0 -> II).
This would make it impossible to reach the OFF position using the control unit if one source
fails. Use of the dual power system (DPS) accessory therefore offers complete reliability, as
it makes it possible to switch to all three positions when either source I or source II is
available and is recommended for this reason.
1) If auxiliary conductor tap 3KC9622-2 is used with the transfer switching equipment installed on a
grounded base plate, Uimp is reduced to 2.5 kV.

Figure 6-5 Three-phase 4-wire network with neutral conductor for the 3KC6 transfer switching
equipment
The circuit diagram shows that the 3KC6 transfer switching equipment requires no external
voltage supply, unlike the 3KC3 transfer switching equipment, and no wiring to the control
unit.
NOTICE
Damage to the device
The product is designed for a rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp of 6 kV for the main
circuit and 2.5 kV for the control circuit.
When using the product in an application in which overvoltages of > 2.5 kV can occur,
suitable measures, such as surge arresters, must additionally be taken to limit these
overvoltages to a maximum of 2.5 kV.
Note
The fictitiously generated fourth pole is used only for the power supply of the transfer
switching equipment and must not be connected to the main load.

Figure 7-18 Pull out the padlock assembly and lock with a padlock
Note
Automatic mode is indicated by an illuminated "Auto" LED on the 3KC6 transfer switching
equipment.
Procedure
1. Close the cover.
The inputs of the transfer switching equipment are used to supply power on the one hand
(3KC3 only) and to enable remotely operated transfer switching on the other.
NOTICE
Damage to the device
Do not connect the control inputs to an external power supply.
Avoid any pressure on the power supply and control inputs when connecting additional
cables.
7.2.1.1 Functions of the power supply inputs of the 3KC3 transfer switching equipment
Inputs 101/102 and 201/202
The 3KC3 transfer switching equipment comes with two independent power supply inputs,
101/102 and 201/202.
● A power supply must be applied at inputs 101/102 in order to be able to switch the
transfer switching equipment in the direction of position I (II → 0 and 0 → I).
● A power supply must be applied at inputs 201/202 in order to be able to switch the
transfer switching equipment in the direction of position II (I → 0 and 0 → II).
Use of the dual power system (DPS) accessory offers complete reliability, as it makes it
possible to switch to all three positions when either source I or source II is available.
Alternatively, an external uninterrupted voltage supply can be connected to the network.
7.2.1.3 Functions of the control inputs of the 3KC3 transfer switching equipment
The 3KC3 transfer switching equipment has three control inputs (pins 313 – 315). Pin 317 is
used as the common control terminal for the control inputs.

Note
Auxiliary switch 3KC9603-2 only: Pin 21 of the auxiliary switch with linked common contacts
is rated for a current of 6 A. The pin therefore has three times the carrying capacity and is
therefore capable of carrying the current for all three changeover contacts.
The capacity of each pin in the case of an auxiliary switch with separate contacts is 2 A.
Figure 7-25 Impulse logic (transfer times and switching time delays are not included in the figure).
The 3KC3 transfer switching equipment is switched to a position by an impulse and remains
in this position until a new impulse occurs:
● A switching command must be active for longer than 60 ms for the transfer switching
equipment to switch.
● The switching command to position I and the switching command to position II have a
higher priority than the switching command to position 0. If the switching command to
position I is issued at the same time as the switching command to position II, the transfer
switching equipment remains in the current position, as the switching command is
ignored.
● To select impulse logic, inputs 313-317 (switch position 0) must not be continuously
closed.
Note
Contact blocks with gold-plated internal contacts must be used.

Procedure
1. Open the cover.
2. Using a screwdriver, change the first of the four DIP switches from A to B
("AUTOCONF").
The different preset options are explained below the DIP switch.
4. After a few seconds, all four LEDs are continuously illuminated. The measurement is now
complete.
5. Using a screwdriver, change the first DIP switch from B back to A ("READY"). All the
LEDs with the exception of the LEDs for the available sources (source I at least) are
extinguished.
Note
The Auto LED is extinguished when settings are carried out on DIP switch A-B. When
settings are made on the other three DIP switches, the "Auto" LED remains unchanged.
Procedure
1. Open the cover.
Note
The transfer and return transfer of the transfer switching equipment to the available
source are extended by the time delay in position 0 set on the DIP switch in addition to
the transfer and return transfer time delay set on the potentiometer.
Note
In the case of the 3KC6 transfer switching equipment, the source on switch I is normally
the prioritized source. The prioritized source (I or II) can be changed via inputs 209-207
however. For information, see the section titled Functions of the inputs of the 3KC6
transfer switching equipment (Page 70).
Note
When settings are made on the potentiometer, the "Auto" LED remains illuminated without
change.
Procedure
1. Set the position of the potentiometers manually.
Two values are set simultaneously using one potentiometer:
● The transfer time delay for source failure in seconds (0 to 30 s) and
● The return time delay to prioritized source recovered in minutes (0 to 30 min)
Note
Changes on the DIP switch and on the potentiometer are not applied and saved until the
cover has been opened and closed.
2. When autoconfiguration is complete, only the "Auto" LED and the LEDs for the available
sources (source I at least) are illuminated.
● The transfer switching equipment has been switched to position 0 using the handle.
● The connectors of the control power supply and control inputs are properly attached.
Figure 8-3 Connectors for control power supply and control inputs
Procedure
1. Switch on the power supply.
3KC6 only: The LEDs to indicate source availability are illuminated. Source I is available
in the figure below, as indicated by the illuminated LED.
2. 3KC6 only: Program the control unit as described in the section titled Automatic mode -
programming of the control unit (3KC6 only) (Page 78).
3. Close the cover to switch the transfer switching equipment to automatic mode (on 3KC6)
or to remote mode (on 3KC3).
3KC6 only: The "Auto" LED and the LEDs to indicate source availability are illuminated
(depending on source availability).
In the figure below, source I is available and the transfer switching equipment is in
automatic mode, as indicated by the illuminated "Auto" LED.
WARNING
Hazardous voltage!
Ensure there is no live voltage before mounting an accessory.
Note
Some points in this chapter are relevant either for the 3KC3 transfer switching equipment or
the 3KC6 transfer switching equipment. This is indicated by references in the chapter
headings. If no reference to a particular transfer switching equipment type appears in the
chapter headings, the accessories apply to both types of transfer switching equipment (3KC3
and 3KC6).
Bridging bars are suitable for 3KC3 and 3KC6 transfer switching equipment and are
available as optional accessories.
Figure 9-2 Bridging bar on the load side for transfer switching equipment in accordance with IEC 60947-6-1 and on the
line side for load transfer switch in accordance with IEC 60947-3
Note
With the 3KC6 transfer switching equipment, the main circuit must be connected on the
underside of the transfer switching equipment when the motor is installed on the right (on
terminals 1, 3, 5, 7). The bridging bar can therefore only be connected on top in the case of
the 3KC6 transfer switching equipment.
You can find information on installation of the bridging bar in the section titled Connecting the
bridging bar on the load side (Page 39).
You can find information on the design and installation of the auxiliary switches in the section
titled Mounting and connecting auxiliary switches (Page 53).
The auxiliary conductor terminal is available as an option for the 3KC3 and 3KC6 transfer
switching equipment. Two auxiliary conductor terminals are included in the scope of supply.
You can find information on the design and installation of the auxiliary conductor terminals in
the section titled Connecting the auxiliary conductor terminal (Page 41).
Note
Note possible restrictions with respect to rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp when the
auxiliary conductor terminal is used. For more information, see chapter Network types
(Page 27).
Procedure
1. Thread the sealing ribbon through the appropriate openings on the transfer switching
equipment.
2. Close the sealing ribbon using pliers.
Two terminal covers, each for 4 poles and sufficient for one connection side, are included in
the scope of supply of the terminal covers. Terminal covers must be ordered twice to provide
total protection for an item of transfer switching equipment (load and line side).
Requirements
● Main circuit is disconnected
● Main circuit is connected
● If a bridging bar is used, this is already mounted.
● If auxiliary conductor terminals are used, these are already mounted and connected.
Procedure
1. Plug in the terminal covers on both sides of the transfer switching equipment.
2. It is possible to secure the terminal covers using an additional sealing ribbon. The sealing
ribbon does not form part of the scope of supply of the terminal cover; it is available as an
optional accessory 3KC9621-2.
In addition to a sealable cover, the scope of supply includes a bolt set comprising two bolts,
threaded sockets, washers and two sealing ribbons.
Requirements
● The transfer switching equipment is mounted and the control unit is programmed.
● If terminal covers are used, these are already mounted.
Procedure
1. Press the threaded sockets into their intended positions.
2. Remove the sealable cover's protective film and mount the two sealing ribbons as shown
in the diagram.
3. Mount the sealable cover on the control unit.
4. Tighten the sealable cover with the bolt set provided and remember to use the washers.
5. Seal the sealing ribbons using pliers.
9.7 Autotransformer
With the autotransformer, the necessary rated voltage of 230 V AC can be generated in a
three-phase 3-wire network without neutral conductor.
In most cases, 2 autotransformers are needed; for more information, see the section titled
Network types (Page 27). The use of a dual power supply is recommended in addition for
3KC3 transfer switching equipment.
You can find information on installation and connection of the autotransformer in the section
titled Installing and connecting an autotransformer (400 V / 230 V) (Page 51).
Note
Note restrictions with respect to rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp when the
autotransformer is used. For more information, see chapter Network types (Page 27).
You can find information on the design and installation of the dual power supply in the
section titled Mounting and connecting the dual power supply (DPS) (Page 49).

ESD Guidelines
NOTICE
Electrostatic sensitive devices
Electronic modules contain components that can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge.
These modules can be easily destroyed or damaged by improper handling.
• You must discharge your body electrostatically immediately before touching an
electronic component. To do this, touch a conductive, grounded object, e.g., a bare
metal part of a switch cabinet or the water pipe.
• Always hold the component by the plastic enclosure.
• Electronic modules should not be brought into contact with electrically insulating
materials such as plastic film, plastic parts, insulating table supports or clothing made of
synthetic fibers.
• Always place electrostatic sensitive devices on conductive bases.
• Always store and transport electronic modules or components in ESD-safe conductive
packaging, e.g. metallized plastic or metal containers. Leave the component in its
packaging until installation.
NOTICE
Storage and transport
If you have to store or transport the component in non-conductive packaging, you must first
pack the component in ESD-safe, conductive material, e.g., conductive foam rubber, ESD
bag.
The diagrams below illustrate the required ESD protective measures for electrostatic
sensitive devices.
