1 Scope
2.1 If there are any conflicts between this Specification and associated purchasing,
project or engineering documents, this specification shall take precedence.
2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this Specification in writing to the Company
or Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company waiver procedure.

4 Field Experience
Designs and materials used in battery chargers shall have at least 5 years of verifiable,
proven field experience. Vendor shall supply a User list indicating User Company
name, installation site, date of installation, and equipment characteristics similar to
equipment quoted.
6 Design Requirements
Unless otherwise specified in this Specification, the battery charger shall be designed,
constructed, and tested in accordance with NEMA PE 5 or IEC 60146/IEC 61204.

6.5.3 Input Voltage: 230 volts 1-Ph, 2-wire, or 400 volts 3-Ph, 4-wire,
50/60 Hz, or as specified on the Data Schedule.
6.5.6 Input Surge: The input circuit of the rectifier/charger shall have the
input surge withstand capability specified in NEMA PE 5 Section 4.8,
or IEC 60146.

6.5.12 Float Voltage: The float voltage setting per cell at nominal AC input
voltage at an ambient temperature of 25°C shall be adjustable as follows:
Lead-Acid Battery: 2.15 to 2.35 volts per cell
Nickel-Cadmium Battery: 1.35 to 1.47 volts per cell
6.5.13 Equalize Voltage: The equalize voltage setting per cell at nominal
AC input voltage and half load at an ambient temperature of 25°C
shall be adjustable as follows:
Lead-Acid Battery: 2.20 to 2.45 volts per cell
Nickel-Cadmium Battery: 1.45 to 1.60 volts per cell

6.5.16 Start-up Behavior: With the battery connected and a load equal to 10%
of the rated output, energizing the rectifier/charger shall result in output
voltage variation of ±10% of the rated voltage utmost, and the high
voltage shutdown shall not be activated. The voltage shall stabilize to
±5% of the nominal voltage setting within 200 milliseconds.
6.5.17 Abnormal Load Conditions: The charger shall operate into zero
battery voltage without activating protective devices.
6.5.19 Output Overcurrent Protection: A two pole output circuit breaker shall
be provided for overcurrent and short circuit protection, and also to
provide a means of disconnecting the charger from the load.

6.6 Controls
6.6.8 Alarm and Lamp/LED Test Switch: A momentary lamp and alarm test
switch shall be provided on the front of the charger cabinet. This switch
shall test the functionality of the “common alarm” and all alarm
indicating lamps/LEDs.
The following control indications shall be provided on the front panel of the
charger:

Alphanumeric display or “Red” LEDs on the front panel of the charger cabinet
shall provide the following Alarms and event log:
a) AC Input Failure
b) Charger Failure
c) Cooling Fan Failure (applicable only for forced ventilated units)
d) Over-temperature shutdown
e) Low Output Voltage – factory set at 5% below the float voltage setting
f) Overload shutdown
g) High Output Voltage
h) Equalize Charge Mode
i) Positive Ground Fault
j) Negative Ground Fault
k) Battery End of Discharge Voltage (Low DC Voltage Shutdown):*
- Lead-Acid Battery: Set at 1.65 VPC to 1.75 VPC, times the number of
series connected battery cells.
- Nickel-Cadmium Battery: Set at 1.0 VPC to 1.14 VPC, times the
number of series connected battery cells.
- Consult battery manufacturer for setting exact end of cell voltage value.
l) Battery Breaker Open. This alarm shall be activated from an auxiliary
contact on the battery circuit breaker or battery disconnect switch.
A single pole double throw (normally open and normally closed) voltage free
alarm contacts shall be provided for annunciating all of the alarms of Section 6.8
as a common alarm to Buyer's central alarm monitoring system. These alarms
shall remain on for the duration of the alarm condition and shall automatically
reset when the alarm condition is cleared. Interfaces using RS 232, ModBUS and
Ethernet shall be provided as well to transmit all alarms remotely.

A set of normally open and normally closed voltage free alarm contacts shall be
provided for any or all of the alarms in Section 6.8. These alarms shall remain
on for the duration of the alarm condition and shall automatically reset when the
alarm condition is cleared.
6.11.2 Ground Fault Indication: The positive and negative ground faults shall
be displayed on a common voltmeter via a switch to show the voltage
from positive terminal to isolated ground and from negative terminal to
isolated ground. The 3-position switch shall have a center off position.

Exception:
6.14.1 All power and control conductors shall be stranded copper, 85°C
minimum temperature rating, heat resistant and flame retardant.
Power wiring shall have 600 volt rated insulation. Control wiring shall
have 300 volt or higher rated insulation.
6.14.4 All inter-cabinet wires and cables shall be identified with thermoplastic
slip-on wire markers with permanent printed characters or numbers.
Note: Adhesive type wire markers are not acceptable.
6.14.5 Terminal blocks for user side shall contain 20% spare terminals.
A maximum of two wires per point is permitted.

6.15.5 Enclosures shall be designed for front access to all components and test
points. Front access only is required. The Vendor shall advise the
Buyer when front access only is not possible and if rear access is
required for maintenance or for equipment cooling purposes.
Non-front access designs require an approved waiver.
6.15.8 Cabinets shall be designed for wall mounting or for free standing floor
installation with other adjoining equipment on one or both sides.
6.16 Grounding
6.16.3 The positive and negative DC buses shall be isolated from the earth
ground.

6.17.5 Major devices and components of the battery charger shall be provided
with suitable nameplates or other permanent means of identifying the
devices or components and their function. Abbreviations shall not be
used to describe the item or its function.
7 Design Life
The rectifier/charger shall have a design life of 20 years, and minimum 7 years without
needing component replacements. The rectifier/charger spare parts shall be available
from the manufacturer for at least 10 years from receipt of written notification of
equipment manufacturing discontinuation.
8 Maintenance
Test points and diagnostic lights or via alphanumeric display shall be provided to
facilitate adjustments and repairs.

9 Warranty
10 Factory Testing
10.1 The rectifier/charger shall be factory tested to demonstrate the performance and
functionality required by this Specification. Prior to the factory acceptance test
(FAT), the rectifier/charger shall sustain full rated load for at least continuous
8 hours. The test certificate and report shall be available to the Buyer inspector
during FAT.
10.2 The rectifier/charger shall be factory tested to verify and to document that the unit
meets or exceeds the performance requirements of this specification. The test
procedures used and actual data recorded or measured shall be presented in a clear
and understandable format, and included in the Owner's Instruction Manual.
10.3 The rectifier/charger test shall include a test demonstrating the integrity of the
output waveform during operation with and without battery. This demonstration
shall be performed by simulating a simultaneous loss of the input supply while
the battery is delivering power to connected load.
10.4 The Buyer's inspection requirements are presented within Saudi Aramco Form
175-172500 (output current > 100 ADC). The form is included with the
Quotation Request or the Purchase Order documents.
11.1.1 The following drawings and data shall be submitted for Buyer's review
and approval:
a) Dimensional outline drawings, cable entrance location details,
and complete schematic and wiring diagrams showing the details
and interconnection of all components.
b) Nameplate data.
c) Complete equipment performance specifications.
d) Factory test procedures and certified test reports/certificates.

11.2 Buyer shall attach a completed Data Schedule to the purchase requisition.
Bidder shall highlight all discrepancies to the Buyer along with other bid
documents.
