Ethics Performance Task
1. The Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of
Florida is a vital resource that helps state the ethical and professional standards for
educators, ensuring the safety of students, maintaining trust from our community, and
upholding the integrity of the education profession. Its purpose is to guide educators in
their decision-making which provides a framework for responsibility and moral
behavior.
2. An example I have of demonstrating ethical behavior as an educator is when I conduct
the “silent thumb” formative assessment after a lesson. After a lesson, I will ask
students to close their eyes and give me a thumb at their chest (or a silent thumb)
answering the question on how they feel with the content that was just discussed. The
students will silently vote a thumbs up if they are feeling good on the topic, a sideways
thumb if they need more practice, or a thumbs down if they need more one-on-one
time with myself or my CT.
3. This example given connects to the Code of Ethics through “5. Shall not intentionally
expose a student to unnecessary embarrassment or disparagement.” I am very
intentional on how they answer, and this also helps them be honest with themselves
about needing help. By using this method, I am ensuring they do not encounter
embarrassment with their peers.
