A PASSIONATE APPEAL TO THE IGALA

SPEAKING PEOPLE OF KOGI EAST AND THE

REVIEW COMMITTEE OF PDP.
BY PDP STAKEHOLDERS OF BASSA.

This is a special appeal to the Igala speaking people of Kogi East in general and the
review committee on zoning in particular.
We the stakeholders of PDP in Bassa found it necessary at this material time in the
development history of PDP in Kogi State in general and Kogi East in particular to
drive our request and desire to produce the State Chairman of our great party (PDP)
in the forthcoming party congress.
We are appealing and asking for your leave to allocate the position of the State
Chairman of the party to the Bassa people on three premises and considerations:
1. Based on merit
2. Compassion based on facts presented
3. Unique and Non-Igala speaking

A. MERIT BASED ON PERFORMANCE

 That Bassa has been traditionally a PDP LGA right from inception
 That we the people of Bassa have consistently delivered PDP and her
candidate in almost all general elections that are conducted by INEC, as
demonstrated in the tables below:
E.g in 2023 general election see the results:

As it stands today, only Bassa Local Government Area that produce House of
Assembly Member in the Kogi State House of Assembly in PDP because of our
firm believe determination and committment to the party.

B. COMPASSION BASED ON FACTS PRESENTED

 That from inception, the East has produced at least two (2) PDP Chairmen
and a number of Zonal Chairmen, National Ex-officio, Zonal Youth
Leader etc of Igala extraction in which we have had none of such
opportunities.
 That Kogi East has produced at least three (3) Governors of which two
were produced under the platform of PDP in a consecutive term running up
to 13 years.
 That all Senators that have emerged in their numbers of both PDP and other
parties have been of Igala speaking extraction.
 That all House of Representatives that have represented and still
representing Bassa/ Dekina Federal constituency have all been of Igala
extraction.
 Except for once, graciously a Minority loving leader in person of late
Prince (His Excellency) Abubakar Audu in consultation with others
gave Bassa a special consideration that we produced House of Reps for
once and was in APP in person of Late Hon Isaac Jimba. With due
respect, may their souls continue to rest in peace.
 That all Deputy Governors; both former, serving and candidates of major
parties have all emerged from same extraction.
 Deputy Speakers (as Governorship had remained in the East) have all been
produced from same extraction.
 That Majority Leaders except for special consideration of the same Late
Prince Abubakar Audu that unilaterally considered Bassa for the position of
Majority leader in the State House of Assembly occupied by Hon. Alhassan
Adakeke was relinquished to the Bassa people.
 That Chief of Staffs to Governors even when an Igala man is a Governor
have all been produced by same extraction.
Note: This goes to say that the Bassa people have had no special privilege
from the PDP.

C. UNIQUE AND NON-IGALA SPEAKING

A Unique and Non-Igala speaking people with no special consideration both for
our effort in the party and as Minority.
REFLECTION & REFERENCES
We at this Juncture wish to admit irrevocably that we are and accept our position as
Minority in Kogi East, but as small as we are in number, we also contribute to the
political development of our geopolitical Area and the State in general. And hence,
we feel for both merit and compassion as stated above we deserve a place to give
us a sense of belonging in the comity of Kogi East Community.
In views of above, we wish to draw your attention to these salient facts that as
minorities in the state (Kogi), Ogori-mangongo, Kogi (Koto-Karfe) and Lokoja
have had opportunities to produce either Secretary to State Government,
Speakers, Senators, House of Reps etc. In our own case, we are only reduced to
opportunities that do not cross borders e.g. Council Chairman & House of
Assembly.
Our humble submission in summery
Sirs,
That haven consistently paid reasonable dues to the services of our great party
(PDP), and being a unique people-Non Igala speaking people in the comity of Kogi
East geopolitical space, and also haven not enjoyed any special offer or
consideration in PDP since inception we therefore ask to be rewarded for efforts,
considered on compassionate ground so as to give us a sense of belonging.
However, the appeal is not unaware of the few opportunities but also in
appreciation of those we have had.
