ARTICLE 1: Design and Fabrication of a Modified Bench Vise for Comfortability

and Productivity
ABSTRACT
Design and fabrication of a modified vise to improve the productivity, flexibility and
comfortability of the existing bench Vises have been achieved in this study. This is
made possible by providing an attachment consisting of a c-clamp and a ball-and-
socket joint. When fixed with the vise, the attachment gives circular rotation to the
vise at different planes, making it possible to clamp the vise to different benches
where needed. It also increases the height of the vise above the bench, which
removes the bending posture of users during operation, thereby increasing
comfortability. The design analysis is clearly stated with the performance evaluation
of the prototype.

ARTICLE 2: Design and Analysis of Modular Fixture for Machine Vise

ABSTRACT
In recent times there are many modern advancements came in the area of fixture
design and assembly. In this paper attempt has been made to design and analyze
the modern screw less machine vice using CATIA and ANSYS APDL package. The
drawbacks of existing vice were overcome by new screw less machine vice. In the
existing system of machine vise the lead screw will tend to undergo frequent wear
and tear due to abrasion resistance problem as a result jaw of vice lose its grip to
hold the work component. In order to overcome such type of problem dowel pin type
movable jaw was designed in such a way in order to incorporate into the base block
of movable jaw.

ARTICLE 3: Design & Manufacturing of Components of Modified Bench Vise

on Rapid Prototype Machine
ABSTRACT
Prototyping or model making is one of the important steps to finalize a product
design. Traditional Rapid Prototyping (RP) is commonly referred to as layered
manufacturing or solid free form fabrication. It is used for the physical modelling of a
new product design directly from computer aided design (CAD) data without the use
of any special tooling or significant process engineering. This rapid procedure
reduces the lead time required to produce a prototype of a product by eliminating
much or all of the process engineering time and tooling requirements. It helps in
conceptualization of a design. Designing a rigid, flexible, cost effective and highly
durable vise is need of today’s era. Safety should also be taken into consideration
while designing the vise. This paper is related to designing and manufacturing of
modified bench vise components on rapid prototype machining process. We have
designed the conventional and modified bench vise in Pro-E CAD software and
manufactured it on Dimension 1200es RPT machine.
ARTICLE 4: Design and Modification of Bench Vice by Increasing the Degrees
of freedom.
ABSTRACT
A Bench vice or fixture is a production tool. The main aim is to locate, support and
hold the work securely so we can perform the required machining operations. Feeler
or thickness gauges and set blocks are also used to provide reference of the cutter
with the work piece. A bench vice must be easily fastened with the machine and the
table. As a result, the work can be done. It can be used for the other operations on
most of the standard machining tools like drilling machine. Bench Vices are available
in different size and shapes ranging from cheap and simple devices to very
expensive and complicated devices. Bench Vices can also help to simplify the
metalworking operations which are performed on the special equipment. Considering
the advantages of fixture and jigs, a fixture was designed to cater to our needs. We
are going to design a work holding device which will be able to hold the work piece in
any direction. The one-part bottom assembly is free to rotate and other part of
bottom assembly fixed to bench. This type of assembly will assist to top assembly
which consist jaws. These jaws are likewise pipe vice & conventional bench vice.
Lead screw is provided for engagement & disengagement of the jaws.

ARTICLE 5: Design and Fabrication of Pneumatic Vice

ABSTRACT
A vice is a mechanical screw apparatus used for holding or clamping a workpiece to
allow work to be performed on it with tools such as saws, planes, drills, mills,
screwdrivers, sandpaper, etc. Vices usually have one fixed jaw and another parallel
jaw which is moved towards or away from the fixed jaw by the screw. Vice is used to
drill wood, metal, etc. by holding your workpiece tightly, it gives you all stability you
need so you can make precise cuts. Even it is used for sawing a job with constant
force applied by hand, or automatically, in order to cut desired shapes. A pneumatic
system is controlled through manual or automatic processes. This Automatic
pneumatic vice project for metal working is provided with a widely and quickly
movable clamping jaw and fixed jaw where the vertical clamping surface of the fixed
jaw and the horizontal surface of the fastening plane for the working piece confirm an
accurate and unchangeable. Using an automatically operated pneumatic vice will
help you to get the work down easily and save energy.
