ERGOGENIC AID
Dietary supplements are substances produced
with the intention of providing nutrients that
you would not have been able to consume or
adequately cover from your current diet or to
increase the amount of specific nutrients you
consume for added benefit.

Dietary supplements are the least important

for success in an athletic and/or professional
setting, (unless you have a nutritional
deficiency or a medical condition that
requires it) but in the right context it can
become a great aid to the athlete. Either in
recovery or in performance.

THIRD LAB ANALYSIS
Labdoor.com
Labdoor is an independent company that tests
supplements. It finds out if products have what they claim
and if they contain harmful ingredients or contaminants.

It rates and ranks those products, writes reports and

publishes that information for free, so consumers can buy
the best supplements for their health with confidence.

It is 100% independent, so it does not have a conflict of

interest.

NSF International
As a global, independent organization, its standards team
facilitates the development of public health standards,
and its service teams evaluate, audit and certify products
and services. The NSF mark assures consumers, retailers
and regulators that certified products have been
rigorously evaluated for compliance with all standards
requirements.

VALIDITY AND EFFECTIVITY
Validity and support is not the same as being
indicated or necessary for you.

Therefore, it is important to question whether the

effectiveness of the supplement is relevant to your
objectives.

Even if it is effective, it should be a noticeable

effectiveness that is worth the investment.
There will always be new supplements on the market.
Most without any evidence to support their effectiveness.
Rarely, they are released with a "minimal amount" of
NEW SUPPLEMENTS low-hierarchy evidence, and even rarer: Supplements
released with scientific evidence.
ARRIVALS

01 If it has no evidence, ignore it.

When it has some slightly dubious or

02 promising evidence, it is still not
worth consuming.

In the latter case that the

supplement is released with
scientific evidence, I would only
03
recommend that it be consumed
when more authors have been able
to conduct their tests and relevant
studies and not rely on one study.
AIS
I will share with you four relevant lists by AIS and current evidence:

List A: Impeccable evidence and are relevant to most athletes.

List B: Can be considered in certain contexts, or have mixed but

favorable evidence (may be modified as more evidence is added).

List C: Not worth your time or investment despite their popularity or

common use. If a supplement is not listed it is considered on this list.

List D: Banned or at high risk of contamination with potentially

doping-positive substances. Should not be used by athletes.

SUPPLEMENTS WITH "A" GROUP LISTED
INGREDIENTS, BUT NOT THE DOSAGE...?

The company from Chihuahua Bio health store (where I live), was not left behind by doing what is very
common in the supplement market today:

Adding ingredients that DO have efficacy support but in a lower dose than necessary, which makes it
useless, one more filler ingredient to make the product more expensive without any benefit.
RECOMMENDATIONS
It is necessary to look even further, in terms of conflicts of interest. There are different degrees or
levels of hierarchy of scientific evidence, and the funds of those who "sponsored" the study or
compilation also have an influence.

Scientific evidence is constantly being updated. It is necessary to continue updating ourselves, so

I recommend the following resources:
RECOMMENDED
RESOURCES
EXAMINE.COM
Examine has no advertising or industry ties. Uses and compiles the latest
evidence to find out what works and what doesn't.

No conflict of interest.
RECOMMENDED
RESOURCES
JISSN
The scientific journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (JISSN)
publishes on exercise and nutrition in health, disease, rehabilitation,
training and performance.

Do this for free.

RECOMMENDED
RESOURCES
AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORT
It ranks a wide variety of evidence and support on the latest sports
supplements and sorts them by ABCD consecutively.

No conflict of interest.
RECOMMENDED
RESOURCES
WADA (WORLD ANTI DOPING AGENCY)
It classifies on an annual basis a wide variety of evidence and support on
the most recent sports supplements that are consecutively considered as
doping and/or high health risk.

No conflict of interest.
