ABSTRACT
Steel-concrete composite systems for buildings are formed by connecting the steel beam to the concrete slab or
profiled deck slab. In the present work, steel concrete composite, steel and R.C.C. options are considered for
comparative study of G+7 storey commercial building. Equivalent Static Method of Analysis is used. For
modelling of Steel and R.C.C. structures, STAAD Pro software is used and the results are compared; and it is
found that concrete structure is found to be more economical.
Keywords: Comparative, RCC, G+7, R.C.C., Bit Durg, Staad Pro.
I. INTRODUCTION
Reinforced concrete structures and steel structures follow a similar load transfer method but they differ in
several factors like material, construction, load carrying capacity, durability, etc. One of the important
difference is that the former uses concrete and the latter employs steel for their construction. In India concrete
is very popular material of construction especially in case of medium and low rise buildings. In case of high rise
buildings steel is generally used and Steel Tube is not such popular. As India is a fast developing country the
demand of construction he is huge, hence finding out the best suitable material for construction is very
important. The material used in construction should be the most economical, safe and easy to handle. In the
present work included Comparative study of R.C.C. & STEEL (G+7 STORY) building. In the comparative study
includes deflections of the members, size and material consumption of members in composite with respect to
R.C.C. and Steel sections, seismic forces and behaviour of the building under seismic condition in composite
with respect to R.C.C. and Steel, foundation requirements and type of foundation can be selected for Composite
structure with respect to R.C.C. and Steel and total cost of the building.
II. LITREATURE REVIEW
There is much debate on structural steel vs reinforced concrete and which material is the better choice
for construction projects. Each has its own benefits. While concrete may make use of readily-available materials
and aggregates, structural steel has an edge due to its high tensile strength, weldability, and toughness.
Architects and building designers take these factors into consideration before choosing the right material for
the job.
Steel and concrete differ in a number of features, such as the type of material, strength rating, cost-
effectiveness, availability, fire resistance, and many more. All of these will have an impact not only on the
design, but also on the quality, and maintenance requirements of any given project.

VI. ANALYSIS & RESULT

The explained 3D building model is analysed using Equivalent Static Method. The building models are then
analysed by the software STAAD Pro. Different parameters such as deflection, shear force & bending moment
are studied for the models. Seismic codes are unique to a particular region of country. We had analysed a single
member so we can compare it with further parameters.

VII. CONCLUSION
From the above it is conclude that steel structure is more resist as compared to the normal concrete structure.
A building constructed using steel has less dead load on it, even the bending moment and shear forces acting
are less as determined in this work . It has high strength per unit mass. Hence even for large structures, the size
of steel structures elements is small, saving space in construction and improving aesthetic view. Speed of
construction is another important advantage of steel structure. Since Standard sections of steel are available
which can be prefabricated in the workshop, they may be kept ready by the time the site is ready and the
structure erected as soon as the site is ready. Hence there is lot of saving in construction time. RCC structure
may take long time but it is economical as well.
