Painted P-51 Mustang is built with fine-grained poplar for the smoothest finish. Finish is spray can Krylon or Rust-Oleum
white primer and color glosses. Krylon brush-on Color Creations also works well. With both types of paint, apply 2 coats
of primer sanding each coat with 220 sandpaper when dry. Apply 3 coats of color sanding with 400 sandpaper when dry.

Apply final coat of Krylon Triple Thick Clear. All Krylon and Rust-Oleum paints and finishes are non-toxic when dry.

1. Refer to Plan Views on pages 14-21 as a guide to
clamp and glue two Part 1’s together. Assemble with
Elmer’s or TiteBond woodworker’s glue. The two Part
1’s are aligned with edges and with the wing slot cutout
area of Part 1. Let the glue dry thoroughly before
proceeding.

4. Refer to Plan Views on pages 14-21 as a guide to
clamp and glue Part 4 to the Step 3 Assembly. Part 2 is
at right angles to Step 3 Assembly and centered left to

Step 8 Assembly
9. The two wheels Part 9 are held in place with the two
axle pins Part 10. The axle pins glue into the two Part
8’s of the Step 8 Assembly allowing the wheels Part 9
to rotate freely on axle pins Part 10. Let glue dry before
proceeding.
Step 11 Assembly
The P-51 Mustang shown above is finished with 3
coats of gloss polyurethane clear water-based finish.
The first two coats of clear have been sanded with 220
grit sandpaper. The third coat of clear is not sanded.
Polyurethanes manufactured in the USA are non-toxic
when dry and are safe for children of all ages. 13
