CODE: 133/3B BIOLOGY 3B (ACTUAL PRACTICAL)

Time: 3:20 HRS Monday 11-March-2024 AM

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. This paper consists of three (3) questions


2. Answer all the questions
3. Question one (1) carries twenty (20) marks and the other two (2) carries fifteen (15)
marks each.
4. All writing must be in blue or black ink except diagrams which must be in pencil.
5. Cellular phones and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the examination
room.
6. Write your examination number on every page of your answer booklet(s)

QUESTIONS

1. You have provided with specimen Y

A. Dissect it in usual way to full display the digestive system on the left of the
specimen

B. By giving reasons identify the sex of specimen Y


C. Draw a neat diagram of your dissection
D. Outline the procedure you have gone through in (a) above
E. State the significance of ligaturing and flooding the specimen
F. What precaution have you taken during dissection?

a) Rinse your mouth with water to remove food particles. Collect about 5ml of saliva in
a clean test tube. Add 2ml of water and label it as saliva solution.
b) Label three test tubes 1,2,3
c) Place 3ml of 1% starch solution into each of the three test tube
d) Use beaker prepare water bath at temperature 100C, 360C and 600C as follow
i. At 100C by adding ice to tap water
ii. At 360C by mixing hot water and tap water
iii. At 600C by mixing tap water and hot water
e) Place the test tube in the water baths as follows:
i. Test tube 1, into 100C water bath
ii. Test tube 2, into 360C water bath
iii. Test tube 3, into 600C water bath
f) Add 3ml of saliva into each of the three test tubes gently shake them simultaneously
for 20 seconds and leave for 10 minutes to settle.
g) Use dropper to draw 3 drops of the solution from each test tubes and place them on a
white tile. Add 2 drops of iodine solution observe and record the results in the tabular
form as shown below

b) State adaptations shown by each specimen D1 and D2 to its habitat
c) Classify specimen D1 and D2 to division level
d) Draw a well labelled diagram of specimen D1
e) State why specimen D1 and D3 belong to the same kingdom but not same division
