According to Scott Behson, a great company culture is built and reinforced by its

people, meaning you, your peers, and your teammates. Individual employees can have

a greater impact within their own spheres of influence (Scott Behson, February 02,

2022). Scott Behson mention 4 ways by which employees can actively contribute to

preserving the company culture during a significant organizational change, this

includes:

 Get to know people on a personal level- Be friendly, that is, be the person who goes

out of their way to make friend with new team members, many of whom may feel out

of place joining your organization remotely or adjusting to a hybrid environment.

 Celebrate others and be creative- Always remind your team of each other’s

birthdays and work anniversaries, or encourage people and fellow colleagues to come

together to show support when a colleague experiences a big life event.

 Show up for people without resentment- Find a balance between saying “no” and

“yes” and when you say “yes” do so with care and not resentment.

 Set the example- Many companies need employees to join employee resource

groups, short-term projects, or long-term committees focused on building a better

workplace.

(Scott Behson, February 02, 2022). And according to HubEngage, (2023) the following

support mechanisms should be in place to facilitate this process:

 Establishing a clear mission and values- A clear mission and set of values are

fundamental to creating a positive company culture. They provide employees with a

sense of purpose and direction, guiding their actions and decisions.

 Encouraging team collaboration- Collaboration is key to a positive company

culture. Encouraging teams to work together, share ideas and collaborate on projects

fosters a sense of camaraderie and collective achievement.

 Implementing effective leadership styles- Effective leadership plays a crucial role in

creating and maintaining a positive company culture. Leaders should lead by

example, demonstrating the desired values and behaviors.

(HubEngage, August 30, 2023).

2. Some examples of companies that successfully changed their organizational culture

are Netflix, Microsoft, and Zappos. Netflix shifted from a hierarchical model to one

that is agile and innovative, emphasizing freedom and responsibility. Microsoft

moved from a competitive and siloed culture to one that is more collaborative and

customer-focused. Zappos created a culture based on its core values, empowering

employees to make decisions, take risks and express themselves. They also

implemented a radical form of self-management called holacracy. All these three

companies fostered a culture of growth, empathy, diversity, inclusion and more (AI

and the LinkedIn community, 2023).

The success of these three companies brings out many lessons to learn from it. These

three companies foster culture of growth, empathy, diversity, inclusion, and leadership

style leads to successful culture change and hence yield greater output unlike uber,

G.E, and Sears. Uber faced a series of scandals and controversies due to its aggressive

and toxic culture (AI and the LinkedIn community, 2023). So, when a company use

successful change communication strategies and preserved their unique company

culture, they become more successful and free from scandals.
