What Is Production Monitoring?
Oracle IoT Production Monitoring is an IoT application that delivers “smart factory”, which is the
primary goal of Industry 4.0. It integrates with SCM products to deliver smart factory for you.

How Does Production Monitoring Benefit You?
Consider a scenario of a manufacturing plant with different roles of a Plant Supervisor and Maintenance
Technician. The plant uses Production Monitoring. But how does Production Monitoring help?

How does IoT PM Add Value to your Business?
Here are some important features of Production Monitoring that add value to your business.

Digital Twin
• A digital twin is a digital copy of your factory’s physical and logical assets.
How Does Digital Twin Help Factory Operations?
Here is an example of how Production Monitoring uses digital twin to help manage your factory operations.

• You can create a digital twin of

your work orders where you can
view the progress of a work
order.

• You can view the stages of the

operation of work order and
also the completion times.

• Both the operator and machine

resources can be modeled with
digital twin to show their:
– Assignment
– Status
– Utilization

Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning
How does AI/ML support Production Monitoring for your factory?
• AI/ML:
- Provides you diagnostics with comparative analytics
- Identifies disruptions and detects anomalies
- Learns and helps you to act on:
◦ Trends
◦ Identified anomalies
◦ Predicted future events
- Provides recommendations to improve factory performance

Overview of Production Monitoring
How to Access Production Monitoring

• You can access Production

Monitoring in two ways.
• You can either use a web-
based application or a mobile
app.

For accessing IoT Platform – use /ui

For accessing Production Monitoring – use /pm
For accessing Device Simulator – use /ds
For accessing PM Simulator – use /pm-sim

What Is Simulator and Why to Use It?
Use a simulator when you want to create factories for test or demonstration purpose. It lets you
create a factory model that can have a group of factories for you to use for your simulator.
You can create factories in three ways:

Use predefined factory models

Import a factory model

Create a custom factory model

What Can You View at Factory Level?
In the Operations Center, you can view many performance-related aspects about factories on a
global level. You can view:

Metrics in Map
• High-level factory and machine metrics visible in Map view
view

Incidents • Any incidents generated by factories visible in the Map view

Warnings • Warnings for factories that were visible in Map view

Maintenance • Schedules that have been set for the factories visible in the Map

Diagnose Production Issues

What Are Metrics?
Metrics are those key values that you track in your factories and machines to monitor their health
and performance.

Use Design Center to

create metrics

Use Operations Center

What Are Rules?
• Rules are conditions that you define to trigger an incident, warning, or alert.

- Define rules to trigger these events based on the nature of the production issues and the actions required to
resolve them
- Monitor the list of incidents to learn about those production issues that require a maintenance technician to
resolve them
- Define rules in Design Center
- Define rules either on sensor attribute or a metric. Also, rules can be created for detected anomalies and
predicted events.

• Rules can be created based on

- Sensor Attributes
- Metrics
- Anomalies
- Predictions

What Is an Anomaly?
An anomaly is a behavior that deviates from or doesn’t conform to the standard expected behavior
or pattern of a certain entity. Here it means the behavior of factories and machines.

identify anomalies.

How Do Anomalies Work?
When you configure an anomaly detection, Production
Monitoring needs to train it first based on the algorithm
as appropriate for the configuration.

After the training of the anomaly detection is complete,

then the sensor or metric data starts filtering in, and you
can see if an anomaly is reported or not.

What Are Trends?
Trends is the pattern of the performance data of your machines that you collect over a period of time. You
can analyze trends to monitor the health and performance of machines and to anticipate production issues
ahead of time.
