For this project, I have decided to focus on children with autism.

As media specialists, we
will come across students with disabilities. Autism is the disability that I have the most
experience with as far as working with children. I have learned that IEPs are helpful
when working with children who have autism. I wanted to include resources that would
make creating those easier for educators while also being beneficial to students. I also
wanted to include books that are important for both children and educators to read so that
each may understand how autism affects students.

1. Council for Exceptional Children

b. This website provides online courses, articles, conventions, and much more for
educators to learn about not only autistic children but all children with special and
the best ways to help them grow as students.
c. I included this resource because it offers great tools and articles for educators as it
pertains to autism.
2. All My Stripes by Shaina Rudolph
a. Found on Epic! Books
b. The purpose of this resource is to educate students and teachers on how autism is
for students.
c. I decided to include this resource because it offers a new perspective on how
autism is for children. It portrays it from the perspective of a Zebra who has to
learn to love themselves. It is great to recommend to students with autism and to
educate one’s self on the topic.
3. Autism Speaks

b. This website offers school resources, financial planning, safety resources, and
more for those who are parents with autistic children or for teachers who deal
with those who have autism.
c. I included this resources because it offers different resources for educators such as
a school community kit, individualized education programs, and advocacy tool
kits. All of these resources would be helpful for educators to learn about autism
and how to help autistic children
4. Organization for Autism Research

b. The purpose of this resource is for its list of educator resources for teachers to use
to learn about autism.
c. I included this resource because of how much it offers to educators. This resource
seems to have applicable resources for educators you use specifically for children
with autism.
5. The Perfect Project: A Book About Autism by Tracy Packiam Alloway
a. Found on Epic! Books
b. The purpose of this resource is to educate students and teachers on how autism is
for students.
c. I decided to include this resource because it gives the context of how autism is
while being in school. It also presents the disability as a superpower, which I
thought would be useful to use when trying to teach kids with autism.
