MAT BIEC - A BOOK THAT YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS

If you like the romantic book genre but it also has distressing stories,
incisive lessons so may be you should choose find to read the book:
Mat Biec ( Dreamy Eyes ) of the author Nguyen Nhat Anh.

With the nice cover and 300 pages, you won’t feel any regrets to read
this book. Mat Biec is a novel about Ngan's life. Ngan was born and
raised in a village called Do Do, in Binh Que Commune, Thang Binh
District, Quang Nam Province, and this is also the home of the author.
Growing up with Ngan, she was a neighbor with beautiful eyes named
Ha Lan. Their childhoods had many beautiful memories such as Sim
hill, school drumming, ... The childhood friendship gradually turned
into Ngan's silent love for Ha Lan. When they reached adulthood, both
of them have to leave the village to the city for continuing their
studies. Although Ngan's heart was always directed towards Ha Lan,
she could not resist the temptations of living in the lavish urban areas,
and eventually fell into Dung's arms. He was a rich, stylish, skilled,
but indecent young man. Ngan was very upset when he saw Ha Lan
living a life without happiness. Everytime Dung hurted Ha Lan, she
would come to Ngan to vent her feelings, which made Ngan even
more sad. Ha Lan later became pregnant with Dung, but she was
abandoned by Dung to marry Bich Hoang. Ha Lan had to send her
daughther - Tra Long - back to her grandmother. Although she
understood Ngan's love for her, Ha Lan still did not respond because
she understood that she wanted to live a completely different lifestyle
from Ngan. With the love for Ha Lan, Ngan wholeheartedly takes care
of Tra Long. After Tra Long grew up, she became a village school
teacher and fell in love with Ngan. While everyone thought that Tra
Long would be a continuation of what Ha Lan had quitted unfinished
in Ngan's life, Ngan decided to leave, because he realized that Tra
Long was just a shadow of Ha Lan.
This book is a series of sad stories excellently integrated into each
other by the author. What excites us the most when reading this book,
is probably Ngan. He is a man with endless and deep love, all his life
suffers so much pain because of love. Coming from a poor
countryside, growing up with simple things like golden fields every
harvest season, muddy dirt roads on rainy days, old school with
rickety tables or simple thatched roofs - apparently he had grown up in
miserable environments and circumstances. But Ngan still felt happy
about that. He happily flew kites, waded streams with friends. He
watched the circus in the market, went to the forest to pick “ Sim “
with Ha Lan. He enjoyed the bowls of the celestial flower soup that
Ha Lan’s mother invited every time he came to play or the grilled
sweet potatoes by his grandmother. Even in the city, his heart was
always directed to his homeland. He wrote songs about the village. He
was eager as a child on the bus trips to home. He chose to return to the
village for teaching instead of working in the city after graduating. He
secretly loved the girl who grew up from the village with her gentle
and loving beauty. He realized that the village was the best place in
his heart. It proves that Nguyen Nhat Anh has built the icon image of
Ngan with a deep, dear and beautiful love for his homeland, making
the reader unable to feel more satisfied. That is also one of the reasons
why we have to shed tears when holding this book in hand - the reason
why Ngan and Ha Lan cannot get together ...

Everything has a destination, but Ngan's love has no end. It was so

vast and strangely deep. From a close friendship, one day, Ngan found
himself in love with Ha Lan from the moment he didn't know it. Ngan
did everything for Ha Lan. Ngan sang for Ha Lan the songs that he
composed about her. But because he was too timid, he didn’t dare to
show his love, so he held his grief in his heart until one day, sad to
see his beloved girl sitting behind Dung's Honda. But then after many
incidents, Ngan was still insistent on the Ha Lan side. He fed each
piece of porridge for Ha Lan while she was pregnant. He went to ask
for rice in spite of the rain and used rice water after cooking for Tra
Long to drink because Ha Lan ran out of milk. He taught and raised
Tra Long as a adult. He always felt lamentable because she was a
child without a father. When Tra Long grew up, he took her into the
Sim forest, strummed to her the songs he wrote for Ha Lan in the past.
He saw the sky of memories. He felt like he loved Tra Long and vice
versa. But then he realized that it was just an illusion when he thought
that the image of old Holland had returned to him, he was in pain and
decided to leave to forget the sad memories. As a child, Ngan once
confessed to his grandmother that he wanted to marry Ha Lan as his
wife. Her grandmother softly said: "She is beautiful, but her eyes are
blue, I'm afraid, she will suffer later". But she did not know, the m ost
miserable man, is her grandson.

Through the book, Nguyen Nhat Anh portrayed the extremely noble
character Ngan with a strange immense and deep love. We feel
empathentic with Ngan, but I can't blame Ha Lan. And that is also the
lesson that the author wants to convey that must know how to grasp
the happiness of our life, as well as not to run for luxury things and
lose ourself. And one more important thing, the best place - always
home.
