1(a) Determine the domain D of the mapping f:x 2x – 3, if C = {-3, -1, 5} is the range and
f is defined on D.

(b) Find the first four terms of the sequence whose general is given by: 7 × 3n.

2(a) The 4th term of an arithmetic is 15 and the 9th term is 35. Find the 15th term.

(b) If f(x) = x2 and g(x) = 3x – 2, find: (i) gf (ii) fg

3(a) Given the function f(x) = 5x -2, find f-1(-1).

(b) The 3rd term of a geometrical progression is 63 and the fifth term is 567.
Find the sum of the first six terms of the progression.

4(a) A ladder of 50m leans against a wall and makes an angle of 60⁰ with the wall.
How high up is the ladder on the wall? ( Leave your answer in surd form)

(b) Given two statements

p= Abuja is a city in Nigeria. q=Nigeria is a country in West Africa.
Write down the:
(i) implication

(ii) inverse

(iii) contrapositive,

using logical symbols.

5. The top of a tower has an angle of elevation of 45° from a point on the ground. From a
point 100m further on, the angle of elevation is 30°, as shown in the diagram. Find the
exact value, x, of the height of the tower.

6(a) Draw the truth table for the statements:

( i) p V q (ii) ~p ^ ~q

(b) Evaluate: 6sin²30° +3cos²45°– 2tan²60°
